First up, my apologies. There's no sub-forum for a EUR/AUD (yes, I know, it's an odd cross-currency pair), so I decided to post my trade idea here instead. Feel free to post your ideas and comments on this trade on this thread.

Trade Idea: 12-05-16 03:52

Attachment 25633

One reason why I love trading the cross-currency pairs is because it gives me plenty of trading opportunities to choose from! If I have a short euro bias, I'm not forced to stick to just EUR/JPY - I can choose to go short on other euro pairs as long as a valid setup emerges!

Why am I bearish on the euro? Well, as I said in my last EUR/JPY trade, it's all about politics right now baby!

The big news in the market right now is that our buddies over at Greece can't just get along. Because the New Democracy, Syriza, and Socialist parties couldn't form a coalition government, the Greek government decided that they would be better off having another election in June.

This puts Greece in a rather dangerous situation, as the country won't be able to receive any bailout funds from the EU and IMF. Take note that Greece has no more moolah in its vaults and without aid, it will run out of money by July.

As expected, this has been taking its toll on the euro, which is why the shared currency has struggled against other major currencies.

This brings me to my trade setup on EUR/AUD.

The pair has been respecting a long-term rising trend line for quite some time now, but seeing as how the outlook for the euro is looking rather dim, I have a feeling that the trend line could break soon.

For now, I'm going to be patient and wait for a BREAK of the trend line before establishing my short position. I think if price breaks below the recent support level at 1.2785, we could see a smooth ride back down to the former area of interest around 1.2600.

Here's my master plan:

Sell stop order at 1.2760, stop loss at 1.2830, take profit at 1.2600.

I think this should give my trade ample breathing space should we see any choppy moves. Also, I think my profit target is well-placed, and if it gets hit, this trade will give me a sweet reward-to-risk ratio of just over 2:1. Lastly, I'll be risking 0.50% of my account on this trade.

You fellas willing to join me on this trade?

Eurozone Dithers in the End Zone

The aftermath from last week's elections continue to weigh on the markets, and in currency markets, the threat of political change is the most...

The aftermath from last week's elections continue to weigh on the markets, and in currency markets, the threat of political change is the most important driver.

The Greeks voted for those who opposed the austerity plan recommended by the Troika, but have no plans for repayment of debt coming due. They want the advantage of remaining in the Eurozone but they do not like the price that comes with it.

For the Germans and their allies the question has become, is it cheaper for the Greeks to leave and for them to stay? The Greek's, with the help of Goldman cooked their books to get in the euro, and have since been on the dole within the euro. There may be little remorse should they leave.

The recent votes in France and Greece, as well as those in Schleswig-Holstein and North-Rhine Westphalia all confirm Chancellor Merkel's austerity plans are not selling well with the voters. It looks like the bills for the unfunded political promises are coming due, in much of the developed world.

With most European governments spending about 50% of their GDP, and the private sector shrinking, Hollande's call for growth to bail them out is comical.

There are rumors that the Germans, recognizing the political and economic costs of 'austerity', are going to encourage the ECB to print some money, perhaps a lot of money, as they concede a little inflation will need to be accepted. Typically, it takes a severe crisis to foster effective change. Are we there yet?

There are two excellent articles that euro traders should read. The first, As European Austerity Ends, so Could the Euro was published as an opinion in Bloomberg yesterday. The other is an opinion piece in The Telegraph today, Brace, brace.

Dark times ahead, as Greece heads for the exit.

Markets are supposed to look ahead and discount the future. How much of this is already in the market? Granted the specs are heavily short, and they could rally the market if they cover. Even after considering the big short, it is hard to make a case to buy the euro.

Hey guys. It's been a pretty rewarding week for me thus far (600 + pips... Not a single loss yet!). Hopefully I can make it more rewarding for you as well.

My trades:

Eur/Usd = short entered at 1.27320
Aud/Usd = short entered at .99409
Usd/Jpy = long entered at 80.228
Usd/Cad = long entered at 1.00645
Usd/Nok = long entered at 6.0054

As for take profit and stop loss... I don't use them because it's impossible to know how many pips each of these trades will make/lose until when I clear them tomorrow. I will say this. All of these trades will be closed tomorrow and I will more than likely be putting in the same trades tomorrow, just at different numbers. The direction shouldn't change due to the fact that four trades are already winning, so tomorrow all of them should be winning. (it's not too late to enter even not at these specified entry points!!) I'm going for 50 pips each. I suggest everyone else go for the same as well. Let me stress no take profit because the eur/usd surprised me this morning with a 100 pips. I placed a short yesterday in the euro intending to close it today, which I did for 100 pips. Had I had a 50 pip take profit, I would have lost those extra fifty pips! Its better to close a winning trade in my opinion instead of taking less profit if it hits your take profit too soon or gets close to your take profit and reverses direction. I don't take responsibility for your losses, so take precaution and trade at your own risk. These are only 24 hour trades or less. Each trade will be closed before the end of tomorrow. If you would like more info on how and why I placed these trades I would be glad to share in a response post. Best of luck and happy trading,

Hi everyone,
I am sorry if this is the wrong place, but I didn't know where else to ask this. Every system or strategy that I have looked at seems to look for breakouts or long trends. That is great except when the market ranges there are a ton of pips left on the table. So I wanted to know if anyone has a system for trading a ranging market? Any suggestions are welcome. I am not looking for a full system if it doesn't exist, just some advice to help a young trader.
Thanks

European shares settle at their lowest level for 2012 as the attempts to form a Greek coalition government collapses.

The Dow Index slid 63.35 points to close at 12,632 while the S&P 500 weakened by 7.69 points to finish at 1,330.66. Earlier in the session the Dax dropped 0.8 percent to settle at 6401.

The euro dropped against the dollar for the 12th straight day after Greek politicians officially called for new elections to break a stalemate over forming a new coalition government, this is its lowest level since the 17th January. EURUSD (see above chart) traded down from overnight highs of 1.2871 to as low as 1.2724 recently.

On the economic front, the German GDP grew 0.5 percent in the first quarter as exports helped the economy bounce back from a contraction in the previous quarter. Meanwhile the New York Federal Reserve released figures that showed that the Empire State manufacturing index rebounded in May.
The Commerce Department numbers showed that US Consumer prices were flat in April, in line with economists' expectations, while retail sales edged up slightly as the boost from an unusually warm winter faded.

Gold has continued to show signs of weakness as it slipped to a fresh four month low overnight as the euro continued to lose ground to the dollar after Greece's political failure has led investors to reject risky assets.
