Janet Yellen is an American economist who has held several prominent positions in the field of economics and monetary policy.

Born in 1946, Yellen is best known for her role as the Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System from 2014 to 2018.

She was the first woman to hold this position and was appointed by President Barack Obama.

Prior to this, Yellen served as the Vice Chair of the Federal Reserve Board from 2010 to 2014.

Yellen obtained her Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University in 1971. She has had an extensive career in academia, teaching at Harvard University, the London School of Economics, and the University of California, Berkeley.

Yellen has also conducted influential research in the fields of macroeconomics, labor markets, and monetary policy.

In addition to her roles at the Federal Reserve, Yellen has served as a member of the Council of Economic Advisers under President Bill Clinton and as the President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.

After her tenure as the Federal Reserve Chair, Yellen was appointed as the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury by President Joe Biden in January 2021.

She is the first woman to hold this position, making her a trailblazer in both the Federal Reserve System and the U.S. Treasury Department.

As Treasury Secretary, Yellen oversees fiscal policy, financial regulation, and economic diplomacy for the United States.
