I've been really tired of seeing good traders compared to cheetahs. Those who do the comparison apparently know nothing about wildlife, other than that the cheetah is the fastest land animal. If you want to use an impressive feline for your trading metaphors, please use the leopard:
- The leopard is the real stalker who may wait for hours on a tree and jump on an antelope passing below. The cheetah more often than not seeks and approaches its prey.
- The leopard has much better success ratio than the cheetah.
- The leopard doesn't keep running if it senses it's a lost battle. It expends a very small amount of energy per hunt.
- The leopard will often protect its killing by dragging it up a tree. The cheetah often loses its kill to leopards, hyenas, lions, wild dogs and even honeybadgers.
- The leopard is a species less threatened than the cheetah.
- The leopard is more adaptable and lives in a greater variety of habitats, from deserts to tropical forests.
