Having difficulties in looking for forex trader job opportunity

Hi all,

As per the title above, I’m having difficulties in looking for forex trader job opportunity in a finance institution or forex brokerage firm as there are very limited (almost none) job vacancies out there which is specialised in forex trading. Many of them only hiring traders/dealers for stock market, equity, derivatives, option and futures.

Most of the forex related jobs available are “forex dealer” whose main responsibility is to execute FX orders/transactions on behalf of customers which is not something I’m eager to do. I prefer to manage customer’s or company’s accounts in forex trading and generate profits for the firm. At the moment, I’m just able to find a foreign currency management Company which is based in Singapore - the name of the Company is Rhicon Currency Management. I have submitted my CV and I’m waiting for their reply.

Just a brief introduction of myself - I’m a price action trader from Malaysia. I have a day job and I do forex trading on part time basis. Most of my trades are done on daily chart based on high quality price action set-ups/signals.

I have been a losing forex trader in the past until I have learnt price action trading strategy where I have become profitable trader and able to achieve 100% ROI in last year (period from Apr’11 to Apr’12). This has motivated and encouraged to venture into foreign currency trading industry. Of course, some of you may wonder, why would I still want to work as forex trader since I able to generate such high annual ROI %? The reason is that I’m passionate in forex trading and I wish to make forex trading as my career. And I believe that it will be eye-opening experiences if I’m given the opportunity to work in any forex investment firms that could expand my trading knowledge and skills.

Is there anyone here is forex trader of any financial institution/forex brokerage firm? I will be deeply appreciated if you could provide some guidance or hindsight on how & where to get a forex trader job.

Many thanks.

try those guys.

The chiefs name is Patrick Something or the other.

But before they take you in you have to meet their requirements and certain KPIs. Selection process is about 2 to 3 months.

No guarantees that you will get a place at the end of that 3 months though.

Good luck.

I rather trade my own money. If you really can do it 6 months tops you wont need a job, ever.

Thanks Nikitafx. Got to know that you are from Malaysia too?

Just curious, do you have day job? Are you a full time trader?

I trade fulltime liangko

I just google and found out in another forum that there are people went to the briefing held by Six Capital and they are required to sign up the course amounting to SGD 3,500.

In newspapers they advertise that they are offering forex trader jobs but in fact it’s just another marketing gimmick by them to sell their training course.

So sad to know this and my dream shattered.

Looks like you are a smart one.

I was one of them who attended the briefings. It was interesting to hear what Patrick had to say. But other than that, even if he offered me 10K a month I wont be jumping on his offer to take the job.

Why bother with a job when u can make your own rules.

Thanks a lot liang for your candid discussion of your career goals. As far as I am concerned I have been an individual “investor” focusing on stocks and options. I have started putting $$ in the forex market recently . I have been trying to expand my knowledge by trying different setups and experimenting with different technical indicators. I was not aware of price action trading strategy until I read your post. I will look into this and let you all know how it works out.
To my credit I have been very cautious and have been happy to scalp 30-40 pips.

You are welcome.

My trading performance has been improved significantly after I learnt how to trade by using price action. FYI, I follow closely in one of the thread in “Free Forex Trading Systems” - Forex Price Action started by Jonathan.

This is the link to the thread : 301 Moved Permanently

Thanks, I just checked out Jonathan’s post, looks awesome

Sorry to say, Unless you have experience in this market or the ‘right’ connection… Is almost 0% u can land urself as a trader in a bank or FI.

And also a point to highlight to you - Dealing on the behalf of clients is not a back to back deal, banks or FLs also need to earn some profits as well.

Why you are looking for a job when you are a good forex trader. You can make a very very good living through forex.

Some people prefer having a job, having that interaction etc. There is plenty of time to have a job and make money at Forex on the side once you know what you’re doing. My wife and I run a separate business which, viewed from a strictly financial point of view, I could just shut down, but trading can be pretty solitary and hobbies, family etc don’t replicate a work environment. So I completely get why some would want a job, while others would not. We all want different things from life.

I agreed with what you said. I work as a Treasury Dealer in a bank. I do trade on my own as well. Job Satisfaction is something money cant buy. You get to do what you love everyday!

Yup,everybody has his personal point of view.I would like to be a full time forex trader instead of having some boring job. :stuck_out_tongue:

Or get a more interesting job! The money that trading can bring enables one to do some exciting things, but the act of trading - looking at coloured lines on a screen, then doing some maths and clicking buy or sell - is pretty boring.

Before trading I was in law enforcement and it was hands down more enjoyable and satisfying than the actual trading part of trading. It just wasn’t compatible with a young family.

Now I have full time trader money, which brings a lot of enjoyment into my life, but the actual trading is pretty one-dimensional, placing trades is a mechanical route to an end goal and not something I’d consider directly fun, and I am very glad that it leaves time to run a separate business, which is where I derive my professional enjoyment, have a few laughs with the people I deal with, build some working relationships, challenge myself, take some chances, back my instincts, build something to hand on to my kids etc.

Anyway, as you say, we are all different, but regardless of trading I’d agree with you that noone should have to stick with a job they find boring. We only get one life, after all.

Obviously, following some mechanical system blindly and than clicking buy or sell is quite a boring job but what if you make money from it?Making money from even a boring job has never been boring for anyone. After all,we can join trader’s communities online, check forums, find new opportunities on the charts, check news section and enjoy facebook(Ooops) etc etc.
Your statement that"We only get one life, after all" is really inspiring and i wish that every human(especially fx traders) could think like you.

I agree with you, I guess what I am really saying is that in my view it is what we do with the money that can be exciting, rather than the direct ‘job’ of trading itself. As a full time trading income does not require full time trading hours, I can see why some people choose to run trading in tandem with a separate, unrelated job, even though they do not need that job for an income. That is certainly my own choice. That second job can obviously seem boring to an outsider looking in, as we all of us like different things.

Thank you! I try to live by it and let it inform most of my decisions.

Thanks Nikitafx to share sixcapital.sg site. It is helpful for me.
