Expat banker trading on the side

Hi all!
I’m an American expat working for a bank in Australia (but not as a trader). I’ve been investing and trading for about 4 years. I had the misfortune of doing very well in my first two years, which gave me the confidence to extend out into options and leveraged ETFs. That foray ended in some spectacular losses that wiped out my retirement savings.

About a year ago, I started day trading to limit overnight risk. I’ve tried a number of different approaches. Momentum plays on penny stocks, technical trading on large-cap tech stocks and options, price action with Emini futures, and now forex. I’ve lost money on everything except one stock that has made up for everything else, and forex. Since I started a few weeks ago, I’m up about USD1,500. So now I’m focusing on forex.

I’ve been looking at this site for about a week now, and I thought it might be interesting to mention that I’m using Interactive Brokers. Apparently it’s not popular with forex traders. Suggestions welcome.

Looking forward to chatting with some forex traders and swapping ideas!

Cheers,
