  3. Sorry, another quick one... Do you trade a traditional forex account? Or take advantage of the tax free status in the uk for spread betting?
    Regards

  4. Thanks for the reply, and apologies for the delay. K2A is something I will definitely do before I embark upon this seriously. Another quick question though if I may, how much screen time per week do you invest in to meet your targets??

Only one or two Shuttleworth shows left for this year, but as always plenty next time round! And they might even have the Spitfire finished after its complete rebuild.

    Cheers

I should, perhaps, stress that I have no vested interest in recommending K2A to you, I don't get anything from them. I am suggesting you contact them simply as it worked for me.

As you say, us Brits should stick together, so let's stay in touch regardless of how you play it going forward. It is certainly possible to learn Forex trading without going on a formal course, but I felt that for me having some formal tuition placed everything nicely in context and saved me a LOT of time and false starts. But we are all different, so you will find the counterpoint view advanced on this site whenever the subject crops up. Bottom line is, whatever works is the right approach for the individual trader. And not everyone on this site makes a consistent profit from their trading...

(Will stop rambling, now, as I expect that this will have to be carved up into several messages as it is!)

K2A do free seminars around the country from time to time (I attended one in Derby - if they get there then they must get to most places..!!). There is, inevitably, a fair bit of flannel and a sales pitch, but it is 2½ hours of insight for free. You won't get a trading strategy from it, but it gives you an opportunity to get a feel for them and ask them questions. Their website generally lists the upcoming seminars, and there is genuinely no commitment. I walked away from mine having given them nothing - although I did sign up a few days later I did not feel pressured at all, and having now completed the course and had a fair bit of coaching I am a big fan.

I started out trading with £5k, then increased that when we realized that it was working.

Good luck with the Enhanced Learning Credits idea, as you say worth a punt. Greg Secker, who owns the company, flies helicopters and does a fair bit of charity work, so you might find that it appeals to him. No harm in asking!!

    Hi Andy,

Sorry for the delay in replying - chaos here, builders knocking the house about.

Had a look at the Shuttleworth site, looks great. I had a friend at Cranfield a few years ago, and have done a few airshows through him, my own previous work and a few contacts of my father, but has been a while. Will take you up on that offer if I am down that way at some point.

Your numbers sound good if you take it steady. My coach is of the firm view that anyone who follows the course and takes things steady can hit at least (he stresses that part!) 5-10% a month return without overly-stressing themselves, and a lot more than that if they really live the life. £2k a month is certainly comfortably possible, on those numbers, without risking your whole stake. So again your position is similar to mine at the same point - you could afford to invest in training, risk some of your capital on a trading account, but limit your risk and treat it as startup costs of a business.

...(cont) And yes, our age/motivation/circumstances/reasons for trying this do sound as though they are at least superficially similar. I started out with the firm understanding that taking ten years to find out that Forex was not for me was not an option... We only get one life, after all, with limited experimenting time (and limited wife/kids undulgence time..!!).

Whereabouts in the UK are you, if you are happy to share on here (I don't think that the system will let you pm, yet?)? We might be nearby, at least occasionally.

My training/coaching costs are a little over £3500 all in, net. The training was just under £2k, the coaching just over £1500. Sounds a fair bit, but I viewed it as the costs of a new career, in which context they are not bad. And compared with some people's losses having gone the self-taught route, I am very happy with the investment...

    Hi Andy,

Thanks for getting in touch, glad that you found my post helpful. Never quite know, when writing, whether anyone will find it of interest so thank you for the feedback!

Interesting to hear some of your story, interesting that you are RAF - I was MoD for ten years from Uni, so although that is the civvy side of business (although I had a couple of years' law enforcement in the middle) we might have a little shared world view.

(Have had to cut the message in two owing to length)...
