Default Back Testing

If you decide to back test, let's say on MT4, how do you go about it?

Do you just pick a start date, F12 your way forward, then write down all the particulars of each trade, including indicator stats? Seems like a lot of writing/typing. Do y ou draw lines for your entries and exits? I guess I'm looking for a way to simulate trades in MT4 over a period of time then export some data to analyze. Then I could make adjustments and rerun the time period, or pick a new one.

And if you are able to simulate in such a way, how long of a time period would you use?

:-)

If you made an Expert Advisor (EA), you could just run it automatically and it would generate the results instantly, but if you do it manually I think that's the only way is to advance one candle at a time and write down your honest results
