Forex News Reports and Announcements?

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum and look forward to learning all I can about the Forex market. Where can I find information about upcoming Forex news reports and announcements? Which reports cause the Forex markets to experience quick and large movement? What reports and announcements are considered important? I know there are traders that are into trading the release of the reports but I personally don’t have a desire to do this. I would prefer to sit out of the market when these types of reports and anouncements are being released. I appreciate any help on where I can find this information. Thank you.

Hi,SouthDweller

There are several sources for economic data (news) releases. The one I prefer is Forex Factory’s Calendar:

Forex Calendar @ Forex Factory

There is a lot of data on this site, including the estimated impact on the market (high, medium or low) of each news release. You can scroll forward or backward several weeks, using the calendar in the upper left corner. And you can use the filter in the upper right corner to show, for example, only high-impact news items, or only USD news items, etc.

Here is a good list of 27 U.S. economic indicators, together with descriptions of what they’re about, and why they’re important:

Forex Economic Indicators| Easy-Forex This is not a comprehensive list, but its info is accurate.

Currently, the U.S. economic indicators which have the greatest impact on the forex market (listed in order of impact) are:

  1. Non-Farm Payroll report
  2. Interest Rates (FOMC rate decisions)
  3. Trade Balance
  4. Current Account Balance
  5. Treasury Inflow Capital (TIC) Data
  6. GDP (Gross Domestic Product) report
  7. FOMC Meeting Minutes
  8. Retail Sales
  9. CPI (Consumer Price Index) ------- (source: Forex Fundamental Analysis)

A good article by Kathy Lien and Boris Schlossberg on what moves the forex market is:

I hope this helps you.

Personally all I do is look at forexfactory.com while trading. You can set it to your time. I just look at news for my pair and related pairs.

I don’t trade the news I just avoid those times as the spread widens during those times and can make somewhat larger, unexpected moves. I wait till the widening is over and then trade if my set up is about to pop.

I don’t really read other major news, as the charts tell me everything I need to know. I’ve found worrying abount news just sets up internal head games and makes you start second guessing set ups, that would have worked anyways. IME, most news effects are relatively minor, especially if you trade hourly candles and up. I just keep it simple, over analasis of news doesn’t seem to help.
