Default Forex brokers down on the weekend

So I recently started a demo account with Oanda, however they apparently go down for system maintenance on Friday. So I opened another demo account with FXCM, and from what I can tell they shut down for the weekend until Sunday? Does Oanda do this with live accounts, and if so if you are holding a position does it become temporarily inaccessible? Why would brokers be going off line on the weekends when Forex is supposed to be 24/7? Or am I missing something here.

    Thanks for any input....

There isnt really a market on saturdays and sundays... hence the close.
even if they were open, spread would probably kill ya.
just stay away on the weekends

Normally you can trade the weekends with O. but the spreads are 10-15 pips making it an expensive time to trade. I read on another forum that this weekend O. is shutting down trading while the Greek elections are in play - just too risky.

Well, i think Oanda doing this is rubbish..

The losers are going to lose, and the winners are going to win, you know, just another day..

I think its because Oanda's whole operation is shaky, they are protecting themselves.

Kinda like taking donuts out of the break room, because the obese people are insulin resistant, yet the ones who are not, are punished with no donuts..

That would be “insulin resistant” not “insulin sensitive”

PS Oanda will be open taking orders at 3:00 pm ET, that’s 2-3 hours earlier than any other US broker.
