Using gmail as SMTP server for cowabunga email alerts in MT4

Hello

My ISP does not have a SMTP server, so i’ve been trying to use gmail’s instead (smtp.gmail.com). Using outlook as client, everything works perfect, but in MT4 i get the message

2007.11.02 09:13:37 Mail: 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first z33sm3311953ikz
2007.11.02 09:13:37 Mail: ‘Test message’ failed

I know that the gmail server uses TLS (or SSL) encryption, but there doesn’t seem to be anywhere where you can write the preferences for it.

Anyone has suceeded in setting up gmail as SMTP?

I’ve been trying 3 hours a day for 2 weeks to do this. I’ve spent countless hours on the phone with ISPs and Metatrader 4 customer service reps.
I’m at the point of giving up.

I spent weeks trying to find a free SMTP server to work with MT4. Finally found one at gmx.com. It’s been working like a charm for months now!

Sign up for a free email account from gmx, then use these setting in MT4:

SMTP Server: mail.gmx.com:587
SMTP Login : <[email protected]>
SMTP Passsword: yourpassword
From: <[email protected]>
To: wherever you want the email to go.
