Hi,
I would like to know if anyone could recommend me some essential books one should read to better understand currency trading.
Since I’m planning to buy one or two - they really should be “must-to-have” books

“Trading in the Zone” by Mark Douglas… Its about emotion and trade managment… everyone should read it before going live.
If you’re looking for a “How-To” guide on forex trading… There isn’t one. I’ve bought a lot of trading books… but none of them tell you HOW to trade… they explain basic crap you a) don’t need to know, and b) can find for free on any trading forum.
Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets: A Comprehensive Guide to Trading Methods and Applications (New York Institute of Finance) by John J. Murphy
trading in the zone is great for mental analysis, im reading it now
'Trade your way to financial freedom" by Van K. Tharp
I’ve just finished “Enhancing Trader Performance” by Brett N Steenbarger and I can’t recommend it enough, it’s given me some real psychological insight into trading. I plan to read it again to pick up what didn’t sink in.
“Day Trading the Currency Market”, by Kathy Lien was the previous book I finished, well worth a read as well
I also recommend, “Enhancing Trader Performance” by Brett N Steenbarger. Great, great book on self coaching and developing your skills and discipline…
I’ve attached a PDF of MT4 technical indicators. I compiled this pdf (copy/paste) from the help file of MT4 platform. This pdf, I guess, should give a good insight into technical indicators and serve as a good primer for reading books on technical analysis. I hope it helps someone.
Trading for a Living–Elder
Japanese Candlestick Charting Techniques–Nison
Investopedia.com–read all the articles
After that, decide what time frames you want to trade–minute-byminute (very hard to make money, because of noise), swing trading, daily chart (recommended), etc. And what kind of trader–swing, trend (recommended), Then get appropriate books that cover your specialty. You won’t need many, as they all cover the same ground.
Work up a trading method. For example, I trend trade on the daily chart. I use candlesticks to give short-range signals, Bollinger Bands to highlight breakouts, Ichimoku to show significant breakouts graphically, ADX to show them numerically, and MACDH to show divergences that foreshadow long-term movements. I use the Shubert Accuracy method in conjunction with these indicators. If you go this route, you will need to purchase Shubert’s course on CDs. It’s not cheap, but it’s certainly worth the money, as one good trade will pay for it. Recommend you demo-trade for a few months before considering getting this specialized. MetaTrader 4 is a good platform to try this on. Alpari UK uses one. Dealer-wise, if you’re trading with money, you probably can’t do better than Oanda, as they’re transparent and honest.
Uau!!
I’m overwhelmed.
Thank you all for your recommendations and sugestions… it seems I still have a lot to learn.
… I still have to choose my broker though… but I will ask that on a different post.
Kind Regards

Thanks Pipcrawler great book, I keep reading on it.
You could try Day Trading the Currency Markets by Kathy Lien (from FXCM).
Expensive ($75) but very helpful. Covers a little bit of everything.
I read the Kathy Lien “Day Trading the Currency Markets” as well. I was the first book I read after taking the BabyPips course. Excellent book in my opinion as well for someone just starting out.
I found it new on amazon for $40.
I have read Reminiscences of a Stock Operator by Edwin Lefevre. Not much on trading strategy but a great read.
I have tried many time to upload the book but give me an error!!
Can anyone test the upload?

there is tons of material to comb through and its all free. There is so many resourses on the internet that you almost don’t even have to spend money the first year. The best book in my opinion is Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom by Van K. Tharp. I spent like $50 on my copy only to find it free on that website.
