The goji system, for lack of a better name

hi all,

i think today represents a good example for all of us. i think i have mentioned that i like to knock off early on fridays, usually at 10:00 est. often times i hear people say what we do is gambling. i idsagree totally. as those of you who have spent some time with my little system, you know it has been profitable, albeit, for a short time. today, unless you put your trade in at 7:20 est, which i did not, there were no trades to be had between 8:00 and 10:00 am est. what you do with these types of days identifies the trader you are. i did not trade. my system came close a time or two, but nothing fit the perameters. as i must be true to the system until it tells me other wise, i did not force a trade or go looking to other currencies. i do not need the action, BUT I WANT THE WINS. THUS, I DID NOT GAMBLE, thus i did not trade. HAVE A GREAT WEEK END TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU.

hi all,

one last comment. while i was writing my message today, the system gave us a long entry. around 10:10 we could have entered at 1.1315. swissie just hit 40, so by moving your stop loss, you would certainly not have a losing trade with this action. i point this out only to educate, as some of you may not have stopped at 10:00 am. now this is key, am i upset? no, it’s the market, there will be other trades, next week. i have had a good week. and i hope it continues, next week. later.

i through a 10ema up on a usdchf chart for the heck of it( i dont usually trade this pair). and ive found that this system does have some potential. Ill be keeping an eye on this and maybe throw in a trade or 2 next week to test the waters. gojilover I like your attitude about not trading fridays. I usually don’t like fridays at all. Unfortunately im stuck in 2 trades that I won’t close yet but I almost never do this. Ive seen some nasty gapping over the weekend.

I agree regarding Fri trading but thought I saw an opportunity.
Sell stop @1.1344, 08:01 EDT
entered 08:11
TP @ 08:51 at 1.1334, +10

I forgot I had an appt this am so i closed that trade but as we can see the pr went down to just below 1.1300 so I missed a potential extra 34 pips. Even with TP & SL in place I rarely leave the house with a trade open, I just like to monitor them. But the 10 are mine. Have a good weekend all, d

A sell stop @ 1.1380 at 08:05EDT and SL hit 30 minutes later @ 1.1406, -25p

A buy stop @ 1.1418 at 09:25; 1st TP at 09:32, +25p. Moved SL to 1.420 and rode it for a while but candle action had me take an early 2nd TP @ 1.1457. Not the purist at following the rules but I got +pips. Good strategy and will continue to demo it this week and then move it to my live platform next Monday if progress continues. No more trading for today. d.

hi all,

monday, monday! it looked like we were in for a bad day initially. however, this is why you must stick with the system. as you will see monday turned out pretty good. i will say, though, that after the success i quit trading. the two bad initial trades just made me be suspicious of the market. remember, i do not need the action but i thrive on the wins. thus today, i only went one win and two losers, but as you will see made 32 pips. the trades:

8:34 long 1.1400 exited at 88, at 8:40, as price closed below 10 ema - 12

8:48 long 1.1400 exited at 90, at 8:55, as price closed below 10 ema -10

9:24 long 1.1405 exited at 1.1459, after the run up i chose to wait for the close of the five minute candle, at 9:35. thus i made several more pips than my strategy indicates i should. this trade produced a + 54 minus, the earlier -22 = + 32 pips for the day.

notice, my first trade went in at 8:34 today. i began just before 8:00, and was finished woking at 9:35, with + 32 pips. as it turns out, I LIKE DAYS LIKE THIS, I LIKE TO QUIT EARLY, and now that i am finished, i do not care what else happens in the market.

have a great day.

OOPS, I ALMOST FORGOT:

today’s +32 pip profit gives us +373 pips since inception, 10-3-08.

NOW, HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Went long at 1.1545 at 8:45, it went about +20 but I hung on only to see it drop back for a +10 trade so I bailed.

hi all,

what a day! i have quit for the day. i do so because i am +10 on the day, +379 since inception. here are my trades. there was simply no follow through today.

long 1.1535 at 7:57
exit 1.1540 at 8:11, used a 15 pip trail stop. +5

long 1.1555 at 8:50
exit 1.1555 at 8:52, used a 10 pip trail stop as i did not want a winner turn into a loser. it had been up + 10 quickly, so i quickly move s/l to b/e.

short 1.1535 at 9:10
exit 1.1535 at 9:34, again using a trail/stop of 10

long 1.1545 at 9:59
exit 1.1537 at 10:00, on close below 10 ema -8

short 1.1535 at 10:06
exit 1.1535 at 10:09 using a trail/stop of 10, actually 9

long 1.1545 at 10:33
exit 1.1558 at 10:45 +13, i know i should have stayed with the trade, however it was approaching 11:00, and taking the +13 would give me a +10 on the day. the way things were moving, i wanted to wipe out my -8 trade more than hang around and hope this last trade continued up. as such, i won today. i am now up +379 since inception.

ps. it is now 11:00. i feel justified by my action as u/chf rolled over and closed at 1.1545. as such that would have been another break even, but i would have had a negative day, albeit, a small one. the big difference here is what doing this has done to my psyche. TODAY, I WAS A WINNER!

I wish I would have demo’d this strat. today even if at a loss; it would have been educational. As it was I was live with the euro, cable, & yen - lost big on all three using another strategy. Best I hang out here for a while. d.

My broker typically has a 4 pip spread on the usd/chf, occasionally it goes down to 3. What kind of spread do you typically see?

This a.m. so far I’m getting quoted 3p by Oanda. Wish this was a strat. for the E/$ as O. is quoting .9!!! d.

If the candle closes up, ie over the ema, but the ema is pointing down, do you take the trade? d.

Hello dobro,

AS you have told that if you had been hanging out there for a while yo u could be in a profit. Always keep patience while coming out of the trade.

hi all,

it’s 10:45 am and i am finished for the day. it has been another one of those grinders. i placed a number of trades today and it turned out to be nicely profitable. first to answer several questions, i use oanda and the spreads for u/chf range from 2-4, usually. also, i place the trade at the 05, or 00, above/below the candle that crossed the 10 ema’s close, regardless of direction of 10 ema. today’s trades:

8:24 short at 1.1640
8:55 exit at 1.1657, crossed and closed above 10 ema -17

8:59 long at 1.1665
9:05 exit at break even, 1.1665, had been +11, never allow winner to turn to loser. there will be other trades.

9:23 short at 1.1645
9:43 exit at 1.1628 THERE IS NO REAL RULE FOR CLOSING THIS TRADE. IT HAS TO DO WITH MY TRADING STYLE. U/CHF HAD BEEN DOWN TO 21, IF FOLLOWING WITH A 10 TRAIL STOP I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN OUT AT 31, HOWEVER, I CHOSE THE 28 EXIT, SPECIFICALLY TO ELIMINATE THE EARLIER -17. THUS, AFTER CLOSING I AM BACK TO BREAK EVEN, O, FOR THE DAY. I DO THIS TO BENEFIT My PSYCHE. YOU MAY NOT HAVE TO, THIS IS MY TRADING STYLE.

10:01 long at 1.1670
10:07 exit at 1.1693 this is another curious exit per my rules. however, as the price quickly shot up to 1.1713, while i was moving my trail/stop to 10, i got closed out at 93. i simply wasn’t fast enough. i am not complaining as there is nothing wrong with a +23 pips.

10:20 short at 1.1665
10:21 exit at 1.1665 at break even, had been to 1.1655, used trail/stop of 10 after being up 10

10:22 long at 1.1675
10:25 exit at 1.1667 on a close below the 10 ema, -8 on trade +15 for the day. i was thinking about quitting but decided to do one more trade. i’m glad i did.

10:33 short at 1.1660
10:43 exit at 1.1637, using trail stop of 10, it had been as low as 27 +23

positive total for the day, + 38, +417, since inception.

have a great day.

Oct 23 - The Nikkei fell at an average of 5.5 pct on 22.10.2008 Thursday and hit its low point in more than 5 years, with exporters such as Canon 7751.T shabby by a firmer JPY and fears above the health of the worldwide financial system.
The Nikkei was losing 478.95 pts to end the morning trade session at 8,195.74. At one phase, it slid as greatly as 7.6 pct to 8,016.61, its lowest position since May 2003.
The broader Topix TOPX decline 4.8 pct to 846.32.

hi all,

another grinder. it is 10:35 am and i have closed for the day. this has been another tiring day. my last trade left us at +7 for the day. you know i do not want to walk away with a loss, so the +7 leaves me a winner for the day. it also has us up +424 pips since 10-3-08.

today’s trades:

7:51 long 1.1665
8:01 exit 1.1665, had been +9, do not allow a winner to turn into a loser

8:21 long 1.1665
8:33 exit 1.1690, had been to 1.1700, used trail stop of 10 +25

8:55 short 1.1655
9:08 exit 1.1655, had been to 45, used trail stop of 10

9:13 long 1.1675
9:18 exit 1.1675, had been to 85, used trail stop of 10

9:45 short 1.1670
9:50 exit 1.1673, closed above 10 ema -3 +22

10:07 short 1.1660
10:30 exit 1.1675, closed above 10 ema -15 +7

since inception 10-3-08, +424 pips

hi all,

i did not appreciate oanda’s 5 pip spread today and thought about not trading. i decided to put in one trade just to see how things developed. it was successful so i figured i’d go one more. i waited almost an hour for the next one, although my tight 10 point trail stop took me out of what would have been a more profitable first trade. oh well, that’s trading. here are today’s two trades:

8:07 short 1.1565
8:17 exit 1.1548 using 10 trail stop +17

9:11 long 1.1540
9:51 exit 1.1550 using 10 trail stop +10, +27 for the day

again, on friday’s i like to quit at 10:00 est.
we are now +451, since incepton 10-3-08

have a great weekend.

hi all,

i thought that i was fininshed for the day, though i guess i am finished trading. i am writing this because i had some time to kill today and decided to look at the charts. i saw that once again the big move in u/chf took place after 11:00 am. for next week i am going to work from 8:00 am -12:00 pm all week long and determine if it is profitable. winter is on it’s way in the north east, i am in pennsylvania, and there is not that much to do to keep me away from the several extra hours. stay tuned, we will see what happens.

hi all,

i did some back testing over the weekend. with the spreads all over the place lately, i wanted to see how well the e/u held up. last week, in fact, i think it would have been more profitable. starting tomorrow i will be watching the e/u also. i am not usually one for making changes, especially when things are going so good. however, i feel the spreads are forcing this action. it’s 8:51 est right now and the spreads are really crazy, 8 for u/chf, 15 for g/u, e/u is only 3. we shall see what happens.

later,

goji, bernie
