Is it true that Oanda MT4 does not allow long and short postions on the same pair at the same time?
Due to the Oanda’s requirement of having both Oanda fxTrade and Oanda MT4 platforms on your computer, is Oanda MT4 more hassle to use than other MT4 platforms?
True. No hedging with Oanda. Pain in the ass somtimes. But if you really want to do it, you can use a subaccount for your hedges. Or another broker
Correction, you are not required to have both. You can use one, the other, or both. And with FxTrade, you don’t need to install it. You can run it in your browser. But there is a desktop version which I can’t get to work.
I noticed Oanada’s MT4 is slow. Ticks come in slow, often 1 or 2 minute pauses between price updates. I also noticed order exicution to hang for a long time. These problems don’t seem to happen with FxTrade platform.
I like FxTrade, but it crashes too often. Several times per day. I’m using demo now, so I’m not sure if it crashes with real money accounts. But if it does, boo Oanada.
I’m thinking I’ll change brokers. But I’ll miss the 1 pip spread on the EUR/USD
Thanks for the info. I do find it surprising that one of the biggest brokers has a slow MT4, but having said that, their website FAQ didn’t exactly give me much confidence in their system!
Yeah I should contact them about it before giving up on them for sure. I’m glad you suggested that.
I wouldn’t give up on them so quick tho. Their spreads are really good. And maybe FXTrade doesn’t crash for you. Although I’ve heard others say this also.
Lots of people use MT4 for in depth chart analysis, and TXTrade for execution and basic analysis. But if you absolutely must use MT4 to execute trades, then maybe Oanda is not for you.
However, when it comes to trade execution and modification, I find MT4 clunky and overly complicated. Where there could be simple ways to do something, like modify a stop loss, in MT4, you have to do it in a round about way. The simple way would be just drag the SL line to where you want it. But in MT4, you have to find the trade in the list of trades, make sure it’s the right trade, but it’s just text so it’s easy to click the wrong one, open it, type in the prices manually, click the button, then wait for that stupid “clunk” sound. What a perfect sound for clunky MT4, “clunk”. My point is, doing important trade executions and modifications in MT4 takes a while, and it’s easy to make mistakes.
FXTrade, you can do it all visually on the chart. Click the the SL line and move it. Click where you want to set a pending trade. Move your pending trade up a few pips, just click it and drag.
I didn’t realise there was a simple way of modifying trades as with FXTrade and I have myself found MT4 to be “clunky”. That gives me something to think about, cheers
