Advice with EA

Hi There

Can anyone help me, basically, I have been using my EA on both live and demo account with Alpari uk, when I use the demo with £100 deposit and leverage set to 1:20, the EA jumps into action and makes wins of 0.50p, 0.30p , 0.26p etc, however, when I deposted £100 in my real account and set the leverage the same as demo, ie 1:20, it still makes many wins but they are only, 0.02p, 0.05p etc??. What am I doing wrong?, do I need to depost more in my real account? or change the leverage in my real one to 1:50 or 1:100 etc?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Man, I can’t say. When trading live, do they accept your lot size as is? Do they round it down or something?

Is there a way you can run two instances of MetaTrader at the same time…one in demo, the other live…and compare the trading results in detail? That would show you the lot sizes, commissions, open/close prices, etc. Do you have two computers?

Account leverage is not the issue. Your lotsize is the key. Maybe your broker uses different lot leverages in demo and live. Ask your broker! If it’s the same, you probably have different settings in your EA.

Hi There

Many thanks, it could be the lot size like you say, I will try and open 2 accounts 1 in demo ,1 in live and and see how it goes.

Thanks for both comments.

Hi Again

Do either of you happen to know any broker (ECN) that has same lot size for both demo and real? or doesnt this happen?

Cheers

I use MBTrading…they’re an ECN and I believe the lots sizes are the same for both demo and live. They go to 0.1 lots. Their “lot” is really 1/10th of a normal full lot, so 0.1 lots is pretty small.

I have never seen or heard of a difference in lot size between demo and live. There is something in the EA that is the root cause. One thing that hasn’t been discussed is the account balance. Perhaps the EA calculates the lot size based on a percentage of the account balance. I am sure that the account is smaller in the real money one than in demo. Why not post an image of the EA settings so that we can confirm that.

Hi There

Many thanks for replies both. RCGray do you use EA on MBTrading. (if so which one?), I am quite new to this so only using small deposit £250 live to start with. Strange thng is with my EA is when I select it to 0.03 lot size (on live account on my EA) to match the performance and deposit balance to my demo account (ie set my demo balance to £250 and lot size 0.03) the EA setting on the real account seems to go back to 0.02 and very small amounts are won, ie 0.02pence etc (the EA seems to accept the positive value immidiately, ie as soon as it gets to 0.03pence or 0.02pence my EA takes the win (based on £250 deposit) Hope all this makes sense. (may be my EA is no good??)
Thanks Codemeister/ and RCgray and further advice would be very helpful (also recommend any other EA to try?)
