Anyone has encountered this?

Hi everyone, today is my 1st day doing live trading. So far, it’s been a BIG disappointment with 1 losing trade after another. I’m still retaining my capital though but I’m getting kinda phobic now. It had seemed so easy when I was doing demo trade. In fact, I did demo trading for 2 months before going for the live trade. The strange thing is, I kept winning on the demo trades but the moment I start my live trade, I kept losing. Gosh! I feel so discouraged now.:frowning: Has anyone here experienced such a thing? How do you deal with it?

Wow, sounds like you were talking about me for a bit LOL,

Yes I had the same issue, I was making about 20-50 pips per night…spending about 2 hours at the PC. I did that for a few months, so I went live…very small $300 trading $0.01 size lots. Did OK for the first couple nights, Made two HUGE errors that basically killed my account (all operator error lol). But hey no biggie because I was winning just about every night before that. Well…I continued using the same system…now I can spend all night tring to break even. I am looking into different trading ideas due to this.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE…

So what am I doing now…well I switched to longer term trading, I look at my trader about 2 times a day for 5-10 mins each…its amazing how more relaxed I am about everything. I do want to get back into faster paced trading, but I am working on different ideas right now. If this is really what you want to do…just keep at it and be able to flow w/ the market.

If you are not able to make consistent money in the bigger timeframes, then forget about the smaller ones…

I agree 100% with this.

When people are getting upset, frustrated, or saying “I keep loosing” the first thing I try to advise is use larger time frames. I dont know if people do it or not…maybe has something to do w/ us as humans wanting instant gratification.

I had a winning short term system, but it didnt hold up…now using longer periods…I am making profit…not alot…but you have to start somewhere.

GOOD CALL gasanvill

totally agree, longer term time frames are are better place to start to trade.

Theres no rush the markets not going to go anywhere … so take your time getting to know the business your getting into.

What i will say is there are plenty of people who do trade the shorter timeframes and make a living out of it, but before you get carried away a few things you need to look into

Have you got a clear plan to trade to, or is there some element of guesswork?
If you dont have a plan, stop what your doing, and sort a plan out and then demo it before doing anything else.

Are you risking more then 2% of your account? the only people i know that get stressed about loosing trades are traders that are over leveraged and undercapitalized and trying to make it up with large amounts of risk… trust me not going to happen!

Good luck

my only question is what did you change in your management now that you’re live?

Typically people make loads of “mock money” only to fail live. The only difference is that live there is fear and greed at play with your hard earned cash and you alter your management or fudge it just a bit because you start second guessing yourself. I don’t know, but i’m guessing this might have happened to you today?

Heres the only tip I can give you, read about it in my fib thread here: 301 Moved Permanently

Cheers!

Many thanks to everyone here for your advice. I guess I was overly eager to jump in and simply ignored fundamental reports like drop in oil prices, etc. Gosh! I wanna slap myself! Although the sum of money lost wasn’t much, I felt really stupid and upset with myself for my lack of good sense.

Taking up daedalus’s advice, I’m going to start a trade journal from now on. What a way to start my 1st journal entry!

In the meantime, I’m taking a couple of days’ break to nurse my wounded pride.

Mr. Grear is responsible for this type of behaviour …

It’s fair to say we have ALL gone through this …

trade smaller … be patient … watch s&r …

I blew three accounts when I started I didnt read the books my mom wanted me to I just traded off my gut. I didnt want to do it at first. One thing I know is when you first go live all the excitement gets building up. let that sht go it will only make you lose money. Review your trading system and review all the time frames its easier to looks a different picture to see the whole meaning.

Thats my 2 cents. Stick in the I hope you make it profitable.
