Are Robots Slowly Replacing Human Workers

A fork in the road’: laundry-sorting robot spurs AI hopes and fears at Europe’s biggest tech event

Digit is slow and taking too long, but I am confident they will address that. It makes me wonder though, why would humans create something that could potentially replace them in the workplace?

Digit Robot Shows Skills at Web Summit in Lisbon, and left people surprised with How AI and Robotics is advancing.

The CEO of Digit talked about what to expect from Digit and the evolution that will be coming next with the ability of the robot to be able to work around humans by Next year, also the Robot Digit has just got a new job with an automotive company and will be deployed soon.

Maybe it’s because humans have always sought to create tools that make life easier, even if it comes at a cost. Money and business often prioritize efficiency over humanity.

Training AI takes heavy toll on Kenyans working for $2 an hour

I can’t believe that lady just called it “slavery.” People don’t sign up for slavery. It’s annoying how some people just throw that word around. If the Kenya’s unemployment rate among young people is around 60%, and this AI company is offering work at rates set by the government, then people willingly apply, this is far from slavery.

She just wishes her people were getting $15/hr like in the US. Nope. Not gonna happen.

I’m not sure about the Kenyan government, but perhaps the AI company smells political instability. If there’s an unexpected political shift, the company may not wanna be obligated to stay. Hence short-term employment contracts as a hedge.

Just as the system operates, companies exploit vulnerable governments for their own gain.

If you were in charge of your own country, how would you manage this situation?

I’d certainly manage it differently than the current president. Just remember, if the government demanded higher wages from OpenAI, then OpenAI would just keep shopping for a country than can offer a better deal.

And one thing I’m confused about: it seems OpenAI pays Sama $12/hr per person, but Sama pays $2. So, who’s problem is that?

Anyway, if it were my country, I’d take a good look in the mirror and call myself a fool for running a country like that.

If my country were in such a condition, I’d have to take whatever work a foreign country offers because some money is better than no money (via tax). That tax would go towards infrastructure development. Once the country starts doing better, we won’t be so desperate and we can make higher demands from foreign companies without fear of them walking away.

What do you think?

But I think robots won’t be putting humans completely out of work anytime soon. What will the labour market look like in 50 years? I’m not sure. But for now, it looks like humans are still necessary.

If a government is wise, you may see these as temporary setbacks, yet eventually, every company will find itself in need of you more than you need them, much like China did. Therefore, when your country develops, the departure or presence of a company won’t have a significant impact, as there will be local or International companies ready to seize the opportunity…

In developed countries, the reliance on companies for survival is minimal because when a country has disposable income to spend, companies are eager to engage.

Endure temporary hardships for a brighter tomorrow, provided that the government is genuinely committed to progressing into a developed nation.

I do prefer the real thing, so I’m not missing out on anything by being afraid of robot malfunctions. :index_pointing_at_the_viewer:

One thing is for sure, I wouldn’t trust a woman buying me a robot.
