Im pretty sure this is not a problem with the EA as i have been able to backtest the last week on the 4 majors with no problem at all but when i come to test on the past 4 months instead, it starts off testing the EA and then goes about 2 weeks not making any trades. Do you know what i mean?
I have downloaded the data correctly as well, im using Alpari demo
I guess i will just have to forward test from now on
P.S the backtest of last week is not working either even though it was working about 10 minutes ago, problem with alpari servers maybe?
In all likelihood, the problem is with the data, not the EA. But you must eliminate the possibly of an EA problem first before blaming the data. Even bad data can be used, it is just harder and more frustrating. What I do, is identify the data gaps and test around them. If it gets too impractical I test with another currency pair or another broker.
Edit: the strange behaviour you commented on may be a memory leak in MT4. If you have been running a lot of back tests, it can happen. Shut down MT4 and start it up again and see if that works.
I actually tried on another broker and had the same problem, even when testing the default EA’s such as MACD Sample and Moving Average. Still doesnt do anything. I will just wait till i forward test on Monday but still a pain in the ass
