Beginner's Disaster!

Looks a solid trade Hog! I’m short off 3542.

It has opened a little mixed on EUR/USD today, hasn’t it? Absolutely see your trades, guys, but I am a bit grumpy: Mrs Templar is away in London, so my hours are more mixed today and tomorrow, so I missed a lovely Cable Short while I was on the school run, would have entereed right on the stroke of 9am off the 30 minute chart, would have hit TP already and covered my experimental overnight trade - I placed a long order on NZD/JPY last night, which pipped me into the trade early this morning, but has since slumped. It could still rally, but Templar Towers feels like a land of missed opportunities and unfortunate timing, this morning!

Both Cable and Fiber have jumped since 10am.

Plus my internet is running so slowly it might almost resemble HoG’s machine this morning… Am going to have to reboot the modem in Mrs Templar’s study, which feels a little experimental in her absence (playing corporate exec in London). Hope to be back soon…

ST

Yes ST… choppy indeed, short still open but confess to taking a sneaky additional short off the last h1 for 19 to bolster my SL. So your running the fort today and trading… you know what they say about men and multi-tasking! LOL

Indeed! Thick fog here today, dark in the house, Arthur (youngest) has no pre-school today so is watching Fireman Sam while I flit between childcare, IT maintenance and chart scanning. And writing an Ebay ad, on a computer that is inexplicably running slowly (unplugging the modem has done nothing for me but might have b*ggered Mrs T’s desktop - one for tomorrow, gulp! With mixed results on all three lol. Still some life in NZD/JPY - should never monitor Daily trades during the day as they don’t move in straight lines, better just to check in at the end of the day! - and EUR/USD could bump its head on the Weekly Pivot at 1.3585 before deciding what it wants to do… think I will see how it looks after lunch. Strange day all round.

Good thinking on the Short - good to stay light on the feet and nimble on days like today!

My NZD/JPY Stop is at 57.14, so ought to be safe…he says confidently…

Afternoon boys

Castle HoG has a cheerier feel about it today. Christmas shopping almost done, Mrs HoG found a book she has been looking for ages this morning, I’m still feeling slightly smug cos my balance hit $200 (I know that smugness won’t last but let me enjoy it while I can ) and the guy who owns the garage I use for my taxi is 99% sure he has found a second hand engine for my taxi !! So I think that’s Bingo Bango Bongo all round then !

If you have b*ggered the good ladies desktop ST, I hope you find some solace in the thought that all us guys are pulling for you as you approach her, head bowed, kicking the ground with your toes and opening the whole conversation with, “So, do you remember that desktop you used to have?”

Top crawling tip would be to seem overly interested in HER story she has to tell you BEFORE you tell her your story.

OK, took a little loss this morning, but hey, who cares, got a new engine !!

Hey hey, that’s brilliant news, Bingo Bango Bongo!!! It has the added benefit that I will now stop coming up with crazy ideas like hot rodding it using an old Lexus lump. So it’s win win, that really is excellent news, chuffed for you.

Less good news that you are nearly finished with Christmas shopping - we have not started. I am the stumbling block; we have decided to get the two eldest kids a Nintendo Wii, and given that I am the alleged gaming expert - ahem - it has fallen to me to come up with a recommendation to put before the board. That then dictates what else we can buy the kids. Then we start in on the rest of the family - not all easy. An example being my father in law - a golf pro, whose life revolves around golf, yet who does not want golf-related presents as the rest of his life is full of golf. Come on!!! Anyway, I’m rambling. Well done on sorting Christmas, nicely done. And very jealous.

Biggest well done on the increased balance on the trading account, though - that is the key bit of news as, given time, that side of life should make taxi engines etc. much simpler going forwards. Nice work.

Yes, am a touch apprehensive on the computer front - there are now many red lights that I know weren’t illuminated before I, er, ‘fixed’ my internet connection, and my system downstairs is now running even more slowly than previously. And hitting the on button on Mrs T’s system just led to a blue screen and a long beep. Oops. My opening salvo on her return tomorrow night will be broadly as you suggest, with the addition of a glass of chilled cava…

Anyway, Bingo Bango Bongo on your treble success!! Now I just need my NZD/JPY Long to wake up and move in the right direction to mark the occasion.

I’m otherwise flat right now, have just given Arthur lunch and got him to bed so can have a proper scout around the charts now.

Thanks ST (not just for above post)

Three things for you. First is this:

I hope you can make this out. Just in case you can’t, it shows my account balance at $220.38. That comes from shorting this afternoon from 1-3550 to 1-35. I’m absolutely over the moon with this. Might have been able to lower limit and go for bigger pips but greed is a killer.

Actually considering not trading anymore today at all. Over enthusiastic because of taxi news, over enthusiastic because of new account balance. Been on a good run recently and just can’t shake off the feeling that a pull back in account balance is overdue. Might step back for a day 'til my own emotions calm down a bit, or do you keep going while the going is good? Dunno mate, it’s a tough call.

Second thing, and I hope you don’t mind me saying this, it’s about the Nintendo Wii. We bought one last year “for the kids” ahem. Funny thing is, I AM the only one who uses it, for the golf games. They are a wee bit limited in games for the kids. Obviously you have your mario games, but I now wish we had bought them the Xbox with the connect sensor. I think more games, better selection for wee ones ( the game where you control the pets looks cool) just wish we had got that now.

Third one, regarding explanation to Mrs Templar, if you bottle out, you could always go for the “massive power cut darling, whole neighbourhood in darkness, when it comes back on, everything was b*ggered!”

That would probably be my route. Although, I have no doubt Mrs HoG would see it as plain as day in my face !!

HoG

I can make that out HoG, and that is great news. In your position I would sit out the rest of the day - good practice that maintaining the warm glow of success can be better for the overall psychology than chasing further successes immediately and going through the stress of risking denting a great result. Is the lure of $230 worth the risk of ending the day on $210? I’d put my feet up in your position, but this is a very personal aspect of trading, so there is no right answer. Great to have a buffer between you and $200, though. Amazing what a few days can do to one’s psychology and optimism… You’re 10% over the $200 mark, this is a probability game, so I would hold and have another crack tomorrow.

In termsof the Wii of course I don’t mind, not at all. These are uncharted waters for us. Thing is, I have an Xbox 360 (although not with games suitable for boys of 2, 5 and 7 lol!), and we wanted to give the kids something that is ‘theirs’, and introduces them to technology (we live in a Georgian house in the middle of nowhere, cook on an Aga, and live a fairly traditional life - suddenly thought that we might be being overly traditional with the kids, thus far). We overnighted with some friends for bonfire night (as it meant that we could all drink without having to transport small children home in the wee hours lol), and they had just relented (they are quite like us - crumbly old house and old cars - my daily driver is over 30 years old) and bought a Wii. It is new to their kids, but ours had a go and, of course, loved it. But they have only played Mario Kart and a platform game. Having scanned Amazon (I’m such an expert lol) I see what you are saying about games being comparitively thin on the ground. So I am a little stuck. Will keep researching! Need to look into kids’ games for the Xbox - thank you for the tip - but that comes with the downside that they are using ‘daddy’s’ console, rather than getting the joy of ownership, which is important to kids. Why is this stuff never simple?!

I just skyped with Mrs Templar (that sentence would make no sense to someone even just a few years ago!) and she seems in remarkably forgiving mood. Perhaps this is the week of good news and forgiveness all round!!

Thank you for the insight, appreciated.

ST

Good afternoon folks. I was a bit busy with using my new indicator:

http://forums.babypips.com/newbie-island/41691-fourier-analysis-has-anyone-ever-done-such-thing-respect-forex.html

So not many opinions on the market lately.

Congrats for the account increasing, HoG. That looks really good. I mean, even if it’s going down later a bit, higher highs and lows are with an uptrend.

No bot trade today. Yesterday it made minor loss of 12 pips or so. Not a big deal after 100+ pips profit in the last days.

Now I must look more into how to tweak this new indi …

Indeed, I would echo that and meant to do so in my post of a few minutes ago. I find that profits don’t move in a straight line, but it is the net effect that I keep an eye on. It is fine to drop 2% in a week as long as there is 8% in winners… It hurts on the day you take the hit, but doesn’t at the weekend when you see how you did overall. You now have a good cushion over the $200 level, so it is going well even if you might be ‘due’ a minor reversal.

Excellent work, happy days on here at the moment!

ST

Long taken off daily pivot, looking for R2

Buckscoder, what parameters are you using?? In my test that indicator is good but when the market is calm… otherwise gives false signals…

Hmm, it is better in calm markets anyways I guess. Because it can’t predict a new impact. If people are nervous or panicking that will for sure distort the prediction. Anyways, my settings actually are 120 bars and Harmno 10. If you take too many freqs then it gets nervous as well, but not in sync with the ppl. I do it rather like sluggish. If you take too many bars, then it’s too much going into history. That’s why I changed it from 300 to 120.

Cheers Guys,

Thought I’d just sit out the rest of the day, so no more going on. This gives me a great opportunity to crack through the ironing pile Mrs HoG has left for me as she and my youngest left to go to Zumba.

May leave a short order around 1-3550 for two lots with a stop around 1-3570, looking towards 1-3510/20 but dunno. Think we will stay in recent range for a while yet.

Bought a couple of candlestick books earlier today so may just sit and read instead of looking for any trade, once the ironing is done of course !

Zumba? .

Aerobics mixed with samba. As comical looking as it sounds.

Thanks ST!

Oh well, I know for sure the next drawdown is right around the corner. That’s trading. Anyways, who said I can’t blame anybody? I can play the blame game with my bots and if they don’t work as expected they will be disassembled and become scrap metal.

Hilarious, thank you. Can’t help smiling at James T Kirk explaining the finer points of Zumba to Simon Templar, either!

 Actually Zumba is aerobics with Rumba. Rumba is a Cuban rhythm, but in most of latin-caribbean countries (where I live) Rumba is any latin music that you can dance.

Patience pays when you got the signals  reloaded more longs at Daily pivot level… SLs moving with ATR… free risk trade

Have moved the Zumba continuation over to the pub
