Hi all,
Thanks for this very comprehensive trading site!
I am still in the planning phase. The strategy which I would like to look into is the break through and re-test strategy. It seems that the first break through might not be reliable, therefore it makes sense to delay the entry until at least the first successful re-test. There are a few questions:
how do i back test this strategy? i probably could do this manually by going through historical charts, but this can be a really big job. Is there any tools to give me the historical statistics on this topic? by historical statistics, it means that historically 1) how many such break through and re-test events? 2) how many successful break through and re-test events, i.e. the re-test leads to an established trend 3) how many failed break through and re-test events, i.e. the re-test leads to a failed established trend.
The statistics need to be performed on various time frames, i.e. 15 mins, 1 hour, 4 hour, daily, charts.
many thanks for your thoughts.
regards,
f
