Here is a query i hope some more experienced traders might be able to help push me in the right direction.
I have been sent a newsletter from Chris Lori . com informing that he is hosting a 3.5 day London workshop in January 2013. I have a couple of questions that somebody in this forum may have the answer to as they might have been in a situation like this before.
I am a student of ICT, and slowly becoming more efficient at using his tools to help me with my trading strategy. Will new input from a new trader/mentor (a different perspective if you like) confuse me more than help me? Or would it help me become a more rounded (read ‘profitable’) trader?
The cost is roughly £1250 GBP, with early booking discount. Now this is a about the amount i am going to put in my first live account. Would it be more beneficial to trade with that money rather than invest it in my forex learning? After all there is an abundance of free material, including ICT and everyone here.
I.e. do you think this workshop would help me a) shorten my learning curve, and b) stop me blowing my first account. If the answer to both of these questions is a significant ‘yes’ then i am leaning towards going on the workshop. Or would 3.5 days provide such little input that it would not really effect my trading plan enough to warrant the cost?
There would be no other costs to me, as in hotel or transport.
You do get a variety of extras thrown in with the workshop. including two months membership of his pro traders club.
In a nut shell, its a cost that wouldn’t wipe me out but is very expensive. But i would gladly pay it if it made me consistently profitable six months earlier than my current expectation. I understand that is a difficult one to answer with out knowing anything about my trading.
Has anybody got experience of a chris lori workshop and/or a situation like this?
Thanks for reading, lots of the same questions asked in different ways!
I have not been able to attend a workshop although it is on the 2013 to do list. I have had the experience of being a member of his site. I will say that £1250 in the big scheme of things is really an insignificant amount of money and considering you will not have to travel or pay for accomodation I would say it should be well worth it. I personally do not mind paying for education, I think it is extremely beneficial for a trader to approach their learning in a structured, organised way.
Yes paying for learning is great, if that’s what you feel you will benefit from.
Unfortunately the majority of these so called ‘learning workshops’ are nothing more than sales scams asking you to sign up for yet more supposed beneficial events.
Yes when it comes to paying for education, you should always do your due diligence. However I believe Jonny has already made that assessment in which case I believe that it would be well worth Jonny’s time given my own personal experience with Chris Lori’s work.
To be more specific to your questions Jonny. Yes I believe his workshop would indeed shorten your learning curve. I think it would give you a solid framework on which you could build. I have been through many of his recorded PTC videos and I have learn’t a great deal from them. Due to this, I would like to attend his workshop and have that material delivered to me in a structured way instead of going through many hours of recorded video.
Why don’t you decide in a few months and give yourself time to develop. A lot can happen by then.
I don’t think there is anything wrong for paying for expert training but ask yourself this, how do you know Chris Lori is a successful trader? Have you seen the proof?
Thank you for all your replies. The forum’s’ unconditional help still amazes me!
As for having an edge, i don’t realy have one yet. I use the tools and analyse the charts but still it’s hit and miss. I’ll get there, someday.
If i carry on with the same rate of learning then in a few months i expect to be a lot more developed, although still in the early stages of my antipicated 12-18 month learning curve to become constantly profitable.
I have googled Chris Lori to find out background information, and apart from heresay i do not know if he is a successful trader. Although i did not find any bad information about him saying his workshops are sales scams. The way i look at it, through newbie eyes, is that he has been around since at least 2008 conducting workshops. Anybody who was a scam artist would have been found out by now and people would air their opinion. ICT also almagamated with him and reports that his free information is worth looking at.
I guess it boils down to, looking at the research i’ve done, and have yet to do, that i was looking at a way to decrease my learning curve.
Just saw this thread and thought it was still worth an answer.
First off, I have to say that Chris Lori is brilliant! I have seen his Pro Trader Workshop video series that I think shaunfx mentions above.
It is around 24hrs of instructional videos across 10 cds or so, and they seriously increased my knowledge and understanding - he teaches you to grow a true sense for the behavior of market and price action.
As shaunfx says above, I think it will greatly speed up your leaning curve…as it truly did mine - can’t recommend him enough!
That said - perhaps you could get the best of both worlds - have a look at his page for his Pro Traders Club Workshop. Search on google for Chris Lori’s Professional Traders Workshop.
It’s a lot cheaper than the live workshop, so you can save some cash for your live account - AND you are able to learn at your own pace to take it all in.
I live in London, and I would love to go to his workshop if I could afford it - He is a great teacher and excellent trader.
It’s also worth mentioning that I to have learned a lot from ICT methods, and I think gaining a different perspective from any expert is beneficial - number one key to successful trading - a thorough understanding of the market.
I hope you find this helpful - please let me know how you get on.
