Every weekend the Forum gets hits with spam from new “members” placing their first post, advertising some product, or attempting to steer traffic to some website. These spam-posts invariably contain links.
I am NOT a techie. But, it seems to me that it would be a simple matter to configure the BabyPips Forum server to automatically intercept any post from a member having fewer than 50 posts, if that post contains links.
The intercepted posts could be quarantined, without being seen by the Forum membership. Later, these quarantined posts could be reviewed by a Moderator, who would decide whether to PM the poster with an explanation. In cases of egregious spamming, the offending post could just be deleted, without explanation to the poster.
I can’t believe that I’m actually advocating censorship.
But, I guess given a choice between censorship and spam, I’ll take censorship.
Well I don’t really think your asking for censorship since they would still get posted if it was legit. We already have forum rules that requires no spamming. So if they agreed to the terms of use by registering, this is just a form of checking on its membership.
Also, this is a great idea and I am totally behind it. It would all depend on how frequently the mods on are to check it. Because if it wasn’t getting checked everyday I’d probably opt for the not checking.
I’ve spent the last couple days setting up a vBulletin forum (the same forum software Babypip’s uses) on my own website and, unfortunately, the software simply isn’t capable of doing that.
You’d think that detecting links in a post would be something that would be built into the software, but it’s not. The Babypips team would have to hire a programmer to do some custom reprogramming of the forums in order to do it, and I doubt that’s gonna happen.
That really surprises me, considering that the software automatically re-labels most links, often dropping the www and the .com, and replacing the rest with a generic sort of substitute text.
Anyway, I’m sure you’re right. I guess we’ll just have to keep jumping on the hucksters as soon as they show up, so they know they’re not welcome.
I don’t see nothing bad in commercial messages. Why don’t they create a section on website to this?? There are a lot of commercial good products for forex. It can be interesting to review it.
simply because generally spammer do not post in commercial section, but every where else. I think the administrator of babypips should find a way of making member to participate in case of post violating the rules.
Some spammer find a way to post link without “www”, so it is very difficult to detect them automatically.
