Hi guys i would like to know the sources of information regarding the commercial banks operations example short term interest rates policies and their positions in different instruments including currencies. forexample if i want to know what JP Morgan is doing.Thank you in advance
I’m not tying to be smart but isn’t that the job that price charts do?
I mean, the big banks are so successful that they have the cleverest people working for them, doing the best analysis with the best computers and most detailed fastest news streams. But they can’t hide their tracks. When they spend more money buying XXX than anything else, we will surely see the results.
If you get really savvy with the COT reports you can look at what the swap dealers are doing
Both JPM and HSBC are major players in the futures markets
.
I don’t think you will ever find out actual positioning though
You can also look through stock filings for hedge fund positions (warren buffett are always of interest)
You can also join what I imagine is a very expensive report by Bank of America that talks about flow of funds
Finally you can check the Fed Reserve h8 data to see what bonds banks are buying and selling.
All this is aggregated data - like I said your not likely to get individual positioning
You can also look at the T bond auctions and what the Fed is buying through QE.
Looking at the bond auctions plus the H8 data is a real rabbit hole but one I highly recommend - and yes it will help you fathom direction of interest rates
