I am not a computer whiz!! I was just wondering if any of the more experienced traders/computer folks can answer a couple of hardware questions and lend some advice.
Is 1 to 2 gigs of RAM enough to support you while trading?
How big of a computer monitor would you advise using?
I disagree on the RAM requirement. I think 2 GB of RAM is the minimum you should consider — especially if you are running Vista, which is a notorious resource-hog. Vista, all by itself, needs almost a gig of RAM.
Even with Windows XP, 1 GB of RAM is cutting it too close, IMO.
Hi gravitas
your computer requirement will depend on the type of trading that you do. If you are learning and monitoring only a small number of pairs once or twice a day then almost any set up will do. If on the other hand you are going to sit at your screens all day with multiple pairs you really need more power and larger screen(s). when I started I used a 1 gig laptop, now I have 8gig and 8 screens
best regards
Thank you for the replies, guys!!! I violated a forum policy by posting a link, and I apologize to you all and the admin for that.
Right now, I am studying charts and trading my demo account on the “Boot Camp” side of my Mac computer (the only computer I have). The Mac has 2 gigs of ram and the virtual hard drive has 32 gigs, and I am only going to trade 2 currency pairs and watch 3 times frames per pair.
This is what I was looking at doing. I want a “minitower”. Then, I was going to connect it to a large screen LCD TV monitor at around 32" knowing that I should use multiple screens or have one large one.
your set up will depend on what you are watching. If you are only monitoring a few pairs in 2 or 3 time frames a single screen might be ok otherwise you will either crowd your screen or be constantly scrolling. Clarity is most important , to much confusion will cause eye strain, imho. I monitor 13 pairs in 7 time frames, How you trade will determine what is best for you
