Hey!

I was just wondering if the Sydney market is closed, can i still trade AUD/JPY?

Short answer – Yes.

Longer answer –

Trading is available continuously for 120 hours each week – from 5pm New York time on Sunday until 5pm New York time on Friday. Although you can trade any pair, at any time of night or day during those 120 hours, for most pairs, those hours are not all equally active, in terms of available liquidity and trading volume. In other words, for most pairs, some times are much better than others for trading.

However, the AUD/JPY pair that you asked about is unique, in that it is active in all the trading sessions throughout the day, and displays remarkably similar pip ranges in all the sessions.

Here is a graphic which shows typical pip ranges for selected pairs in four trading sessions.

If the figures in this graphic are accurate, you should be able to trade the AUD/JPY pair with equal success during any of the trading sessions.
