I would like to get some expert advice on a recent pricing movement on a particular MT4 platform. I’ve noticed on a number of occasions that pair pricing on different brokers platforms can be different. But I’d like to get a view on the attached comparison and any thoughts on the reason for such difference.
Some brokers make their own market prices, or change the spread in low volatility times. You need to check if it’s the spread or actual price and underlying market. Either way the one which pushed price abnormally is the one to stay away from. This is when people sometimes say their broker hunts their stops.
It is better to stay away from market makers if you don’t want to experience such things. Use brokers who gives direct access to the inter market. Forexchief is one of such brokers. I have been using this broker for a while now and such things does not happen. Trading is easy, fast and straight forward with STP and ECN brokers.
In the case you attached, I’m 99.9% sure it is the spread.
When there’s a sudden increment of the spread, it is usually the sell price to go down. From the chart, it looks like the sell price went temporarily down because of the spread and then it went back to normal, forming that huge candle.
In some cases, regardless of the spread, brokers can quote slightly different prices, but we are usually talking about fractions of pips, this is not the case.
Huge banks have sophisticated programs to try to exploit this difference of price through arbitrage. It is called HFT.
I had the pleasure to collaborate with a huge bank in a similar project. I was the only one coming from an Economic background. The rest of the team was formed by engineers
That thing also interested me much as well for no matter how do you put that all. Can we really see something bad along with it or not ? I do not want to make it sounds loud but we should be able to know where brokers scam us anyway for that reason.
