Day trade in simple words is the trade which is opened and closed within a day itself anytime before the rollover occurs. Also called as intraday trade. It is a type of short term trade where you are trading on the price fluctuation of one day and not concerned about the overall trend of the instrument.
Their 2 major categories, 1 is the stocks of various companies which you trade on like apple, google, amazon etc. But the second category is the Stock index. Stock indices are the index of multiple companies of an industry, area all combined like, S&P500, 225JPY, D30EUR etc.

Day trading is normally 3/4days in a trade, intraday in opening and closing a position on the same day
