FXCM Better then Oanda?

I have no problems with Oanda. The trading platform on the android could be a little better on the lag lost a few trades in a matter of seconds cause of lag but the computer platform is awsome.

Jason, Thanks for all the Info you provided,

iPhone app is hella smoother and better. I personally bought a iPhone in the past just for this reason. Have the app installed on my android as well. Each have their own perks though. However commission is a big deal when you have grands at stake. For this reason Oanda blows… ECN takes the prize on many levels, unfortunately you need thousands first

I use tradersway, fxcm and alpari and yes, FXCM is a lot better than onada. I did give onada a try in the past, but gave up after some of the issues as posted earlier…

never ever had any technical issues with Oanda. but since they run their own java platform where your components have to be updated to run fluently. maybe it’s not their fault …

fxcm better than Oanda?

if you can’t spot the fish …

My issue with Oanda is not the technical issues but the fact that they use news announcements as excuses to widen the spread and take out stops. I have mentioned this in other threads, but I am so p***ed off at Oanda that I will mention it at any thread that discusses forex brokers.

This conversation has opened my eyes - thank you all very much indeed and I am heading for Oanda - sounds
just right for me - a newbie

Hey Money,

Which country are you in?

I’ve got an IBM server which I’m looking to sell pretty soon but considering it’s size and weight, it wouldn’t be feasible to post it anywhere!

I don’t want much for it, so if you are in the London, England vicinity, maybe we could work something out.

Hey Shawlynot007, Im USA, but thanks…

Yeah, the Oanda Spike is horrible, Im sure it would be wonderful if we didnt see these spikes… Last night AU ran a 4 pip spread for almost 7 minutes. And I couldnt see no reason for it… Its definitely annoying… As far as the lag, I just have to work around it, like I have been i guess, lol… You just never know when it will happen… Thanks for everyones input on this issue.

Tangentially speaking:

FXCM offers customers free access to live streaming major news releases, in which a senior strategist usually comes on 15-30 min before the release, and talks you through the release.

This is great, because the DailyFX team has split-second access to a figure, and you can watch it released live.
Rather than sitting at your desk refreshing your screen on an economic calendar, or waiting to read a tweet or however you get your major news fed to you.

Def great for newer traders because they’ll talk live strategy and how it impacts currency pairs going forward.

Don’t blame your incompetence on the broker… Oanda is by far the best broker I’ve used and FXCM is among the worst.

You’re doing something wrong. In five years with Oanda I have never experienced any of what you describe.

humm, I dont know, must be my PC, MT4 has been frozen for 8 minutes now, it freeze when its volitle, like clock work… Even my Galaxy tab loses connection at the same exact time. *Shruggs, shouldnt be trading when news hits anyways…

Was just going to say it must be machine-related - what type of internet do you have too?
There may be limits to your bandwidth…

I just traded the NFP with Oanda, no freeze, just the usual spread widening

I have the most expense that my provider has… Cable, but Wireless. Never thought about the bandwidth.

Probably my PC… Im still frozen, lol… But can still surf the net, and even watch Utube right now… Going to do a PC overHaul this weekend… See what happens… I use MT4 just for charting anyways…

Like I said, its probably a good thing in the long run… If it freezes, it means, Dont trade anyways, lol…

just came back on,

I also use renko charts, and when it finally unfreezes, you can see the blocks formed correctly, every move is there. But like i said, i work off the MT4 Charts,

I’ll be good to go SUnday,

You might be running too many poorly written MT4 custom indicators.

I remember running a few of TRO’s custom indicators that completely bogged down my platform.

I’ve seen some of your charts and you do seem to have a lot on them.

Gotcha!

Yea I recently cleaned up my comp and noticed a dramatic performance improvement around big news events like this when I have my software up, and 10 other things going at once.

I keep my ipad on my desk, with my broker’s app up as a backup.
And, have my cellphone with Web access in case home internet goes down.

Need to be able to access the market in case the worst happens ya know.

Good luck out there!

I have alot of TRO indicators in my folder, but Dont use any of them… He has some good ones, but they are what they are, just chart candy, more-less…

Or chart-Clutter, lol…

the currecny meter probably doesnt help, because I know the heat maps used to bog me down also… Like i said, Im going to spend the whole weekend over-hauling it.

See, right now, its running perfectly smooth…

sooooooooooooooooooooo many pics and videos… its a headache
