I know I tend to be so political with my posts about the current situation of my country but I hope you guys bare with me.
The recent moves by Vietnam, Indonesia, and Hong Kong against China have inspired me, made me think that maybe we could do the same for our country. After all, thereās nothing wrong with asserting our rights in our own lands and waters. But, it looks like this administration has no plans of doing that.
I studied Mandarin in the university cause that was during the dispute over Scarborough shoal. I was joking around that time maybe one day weāll be invaded by China. But now, it becomes more real everyday.
It was another Chinese fishing vessel. According to the initial stories of the fishermen involved, they believe that the vessel really rammed and partially sank their ship on purpose. Then, they left the fishermen there to drown.
From what Iāve read in the Western press, no one drowned. There were other Filipino fishing boats who collected the fishermen.
Fishermen in other nations seem to have similar issues with neighbours. A fisherman died during the Cod Wars between UK and Iceland, there are currently disputes between Scotland and Ireland fishing near Rockall, and Spanish/UK conflicts around Gibraltar have been going on for years.
It looks like the politicians in the Philippines are using this as an excuse to criticise each other, I wouldnāt worry about it
Itās also a bit frustrating cause our president is usually very aggressive and talks trash towards any nation that seemingly goes against the country. He even talked smack about God, the pope, US, Canada, etc. But he canāt say anything to China EVER.
Iāve always wondered which par of the world the āroseā is often typing from lol
Well I suppose therein lies the qualification for the fact that power is purely relative. I treat the news from the mainstream media with very little seriousness (most times), but in this case I suppose there isnāt much to be expected of the situation.
More often than not, it is the strong who wins, not the righteous.
Proud Filipina over here! Haha. Have you ever been to the Philippines?
Unfortunately. I just hope that thereās still something left for the Filipinos by the end of this administration. It frustrates me to think that he has 3 years left in power, and heās already done so much damage to our sovereignty.
Sorry I donāt know enough about your situation at the moment to be able to pass a decent opinion. But I do understand your fear there - Over here in the UK we have all our political classes deeply engaged on GIVING OUR SOVEREIGNTY AWAY to the EU - and trying to pretend its āFor our own goodā ! Some of us are objecting through BREXIT - and all I can say is that āstroppy Chinese fishermenā are not quite the same as a āproper invasionā - just aggressive bullies. So it doesnāt sound like a āproper invasionā.
Worrying though that your āGovernmentā is not seemingly prepared to make bigger āproestsā to the Chinese - but people who run their own people over with tanks for protesting donāt sound like great ālistenersā.
My best wishes and hopes that this resolves itself satisfactorily.
Thatās understandable. Sometimes I also wonder if Iām just overreacting and making a big deal out of nothing. But idk. Itās a legit concern for me here. I guess I just donāt want to see things get any worse.
