Have we been invaded?

I know I tend to be so political with my posts about the current situation of my country but I hope you guys bare with me. :frowning: :frowning:

The recent moves by Vietnam, Indonesia, and Hong Kong against China have inspired me, made me think that maybe we could do the same for our country. After all, there’s nothing wrong with asserting our rights in our own lands and waters. :frowning: But, it looks like this administration has no plans of doing that. :frowning:

I studied Mandarin in the university cause that was during the dispute over Scarborough shoal. I was joking around that time maybe one day we’ll be invaded by China. But now, it becomes more real everyday. :frowning:

Was it a Chinese navy boat involved or was it a rival Chinese fishing boat?

It was another Chinese fishing vessel. :open_mouth: According to the initial stories of the fishermen involved, they believe that the vessel really rammed and partially sank their ship on purpose. :frowning: Then, they left the fishermen there to drown. :frowning:

From what I’ve read in the Western press, no one drowned. There were other Filipino fishing boats who collected the fishermen.
Fishermen in other nations seem to have similar issues with neighbours. A fisherman died during the Cod Wars between UK and Iceland, there are currently disputes between Scotland and Ireland fishing near Rockall, and Spanish/UK conflicts around Gibraltar have been going on for years.

It looks like the politicians in the Philippines are using this as an excuse to criticise each other, I wouldn’t worry about it

They were saved by Vietnamese fishermen who happened to be there during that time. :frowning:

I hope you’re right. :frowning: I’m just so frustrated that it seems like our fishermen get no support and assistance during times like these. :frowning:

It’s also a bit frustrating cause our president is usually very aggressive and talks trash towards any nation that seemingly goes against the country. :open_mouth: He even talked smack about God, the pope, US, Canada, etc. But he can’t say anything to China EVER. :frowning:

I’ve always wondered which par of the world the ā€œroseā€ is often typing from lol

Well I suppose therein lies the qualification for the fact that power is purely relative. I treat the news from the mainstream media with very little seriousness (most times), but in this case I suppose there isn’t much to be expected of the situation.

More often than not, it is the strong who wins, not the righteous.

Proud Filipina over here! Haha. Have you ever been to the Philippines?

Unfortunately. :frowning: I just hope that there’s still something left for the Filipinos by the end of this administration. :frowning: It frustrates me to think that he has 3 years left in power, and he’s already done so much damage to our sovereignty. :frowning:

On today’s episode of clowning around with our politicians…

If you had Trump in charge, he would probably build an underwater wall to keep the Chibese fish out

Sorry I don’t know enough about your situation at the moment to be able to pass a decent opinion. But I do understand your fear there - Over here in the UK we have all our political classes deeply engaged on GIVING OUR SOVEREIGNTY AWAY to the EU - and trying to pretend its ā€œFor our own goodā€ ! Some of us are objecting through BREXIT - and all I can say is that ā€œstroppy Chinese fishermenā€ are not quite the same as a ā€œproper invasionā€ - just aggressive bullies. So it doesn’t sound like a ā€œproper invasionā€.

Worrying though that your ā€œGovernmentā€ is not seemingly prepared to make bigger ā€œproestsā€ to the Chinese - but people who run their own people over with tanks for protesting don’t sound like great ā€œlistenersā€.

My best wishes and hopes that this resolves itself satisfactorily.

That feels like a stretch…

China is geographically close. The others are far away.

China is the biting dog. The others are only barking dogs…

Better be wary of the biting one, and try to always stay at a safe biting distance. I guess this is called ā€œpoliticsā€ā€¦

That’s understandable. :frowning: Sometimes I also wonder if I’m just overreacting and making a big deal out of nothing. But idk. It’s a legit concern for me here. :frowning: I guess I just don’t want to see things get any worse. :frowning:

I guess so. :frowning: That makes sense. :frowning: I guess we’ll see how he’ll handle the territorial issues with China during his upcoming visit there.
