Actually anyone with a little insight on what configuration is appropriate for active day trading would be greatly appreciated. My pc just aint gettin’ the job done. Thanks guys.
Your internent connection is what is most important. Hight speed is a must for any intraday trading. The PC and configuration should not be an issue nowadays, anything that they sell as current or close to it would be much more than adequate for running java programs or downloaded platforms that you will need to execute from your broker.

I am surprised at your comment on the need for a high speed internet connection.
I agree that any modern computer will do the job, but i run only a dial-up connection at 46kb/s and with this I had no trouble downloading the GFT platform and doing live forex trading. Every trade was exactly as i clicked - there was never any slippage.
My share trading was always done on dial-up and i have never had the slightest problem.
However, I am in Western Australia, a place of only a million people and the lines here are simply never congested.
My forex goes to Sydney and, again, I think that we have far fewer customers and far less congested lines.
This might explain my success with dial-up.
If you are in America, then i guess you will need more powerful connections. Correct me if I am wrong.
Kind regards, Tymen Wortel, Perth, Western Australia.

My point is that the internet connection is the most important part when purchasing a “modern” computer. In theory you would be better off with dial up if you never had any connection problems or speed issues as opposed to high speed internet where say you were experiencing blackouts or issues with your ISP.
From my experience high speed internet with my ISP has been more reliable than dial up, thats all. Whether or not you need the extra bandwidth or not really depends on what exactly you are all running. I like to run multiple platforms and still be on this forum and other sites. I don’t know if i could do that on dial up properly.
Hi Dave,
I can only speak from my experience, but my mentor sent me this link to get a new PC for using with multi charts… they won’t let me post the link here so I’ve had to paste in the data… sorry

Power User Definition
We strongly recommend using 64-bit version of MultiCharts .NET. A power user is someone who uses 1 or more of the following: 5 or more tick charts, 10 or more interval charts, 15 or more indicators or signals on a chart.
I bought a second hand Dell on Ebay for 325.00, it had no software on it other than internet capability. But that’s fine, I just needed to access the charts. I think internet speed and consistency helps I paid for BT Infinity, mainly to have consistency but it still goes down and freezes at inopportune moments. If you’re interested in the Dell, I can send you the link to the guys on Ebay. They refurbish PC’s. I didn’t want to buy a brand new one because a. I prefer Macs and b. if I’m crap at trading I’ll never use it again! Good luck. Laura.
9 year old post! !!!
Hi Laura,
It’s probably better, if you can, to find a current thread discussing this type of issue, than resuscitating one from 2007 (because they displace current discussions from the front page, when you “bump” them).
Here’s a thread from today/yesterday, in which the same kind of issue is discussed - would be a better place to ask!: 301 Moved Permanently
For some reason Lexys link did not work so I will try to post it with hopefully better results

Thanks very much, Bob! (I must have mistyped my link, above, or something …).
Ah yes: I put an extra bracket in the code, so it didn’t work! :8:
Just know you got a friend thats got your back and is looking out
The funny thing is this post was clearly aimed at me, but I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve seen it. :-/
And it was posted nine years ago. Odd. Either way, I don’t think he’d have a problem with modern computer rigs, even the cheaper ones.
I hope all these help, basically im running an i3 laptop with 4gb ram and 320 gb hard drive, i try to minimize the cpu use when trading to avoid any hardware lag and yes it would be good to look into more stable internet connection. best of luck.
The original question was posted nine years ago. He must have found a computer by now.
