On FXCM the demo account sends my orders to a server located in NYC and gives me back the price of the real market which is from a server located in UK. My orders are never sent to the market. The NYC server is not giving back any real feeling.
No matter what rope you hang on, try to make pips first, not money. Start with minimum allowed 1k lots. Increase that only after you get the feeling you can do more. Just my 2c.
Hi Mihk,
You make a great point that a demo account can’t take into account the liquidity or lack thereof in the live market, especially during news events. That means a demo won’t always reflect the positive slippage and negative slippage that are possible in equal measure with an FXCM live account.
However, a demo account can still be a useful to test a strategy that does not involve trading during news events or other illiquid times. That’s because during market conditions the fills on demo will be comparable to the live fills, since FXCM demo accounts reflect live market prices.
