I don’t understand on the MT4 platform there is an option to sell the currency when you have yet to buy one. How is this possible?

In any forex transaction you are always simultaneously both buying one currency and selling another.

But it reality, as a retail trader through a broker, you are neither buying nor selling anything at all! You are only taking a position concerning the change in the exchange rate between the two currencies for a notional quantity of the currencies determined by your position size.
