How many time frames do you use and which ones?

When I day trade I use 3-4. 2 Bias that needs to be in line, and then 1-2 entry time frames. If I can get in earlier, great! If not I have my bigger entry.
Daily, hourly, 5min (1min if it is going but very rarely)

Backtested, forward tested, traded for few years, works for me! Have trader friends that does only 1 time frame, some 2, some 15min 1h, and it works for them. I tried and failed, I found my working time frames. How about you?

Welcooooome! I usually use 3 timeframes! I use the hourly, 4H and daily. I’m not a scalper but I prefer “quick” trades that last for a 3-4 days at most. I use the higher timeframe to confirm the trend and the hourly to spot my potential entry. If you don’t mind, how long have you been trading?

Hi TradingVikingF,

I thought you’d want to know that we just had a big poll and discussion of of BP members asking this question.

There are 152 votes and almost 100 replies (so far) discussing it.

Here you go!

Agreed since three timeframes can be good enough to read the market movement and trade accordingly, i use 4h+1h+15m usually.

If you know who Alex Elder is then may have seen the triple screen. Personally I use 5M and 30M that is based on Elder’s approach

By default, I use two time frames — H4 and H1. There are times, though, I use just one…the H4 or H1, for my analysis and entry, and there are times I use three or four time frames — H4, H1, M30 and M15. I also occasionally take a look at the daily and weekly time frames. I hardly ever use the M5 and M1 time frames.

Can you reduce them to one, by multiplying the indicator settings accordingly?
