How many years did it take for you to become confident in trading?

How many years before you became confident and finally profitable in Forex Trading?

It depends on you.
You need to pass the exam.
If you can make 10% on your demo account balance then you are ok.
50% in the middle
100% on your demo account you are very near.
Once you start making your pending orders in the night and check it the next day with profit then you can start the real account trading.
Although it is better to go for the weekly candle.set the pending order on Sunday before midnight and check it on Friday .

For me it does not have anything with confidence. I was confident about trading soon as I have entered the market.

It took me more than 10 years to understand and to see what is important in trading.

Risk management where 1% stop loss is crucial for success.
Discipline to enter the trade signal by the trading signal was very important.

Those two things were the way how to become profitable.

But to see what was important it took years of experience and self evaluating.

Being critical and looking what to improve, where I did the mistake, was the road to success.

@Tonyomark Well, I started trading commodity futures market and currencies in IMM since 1978. I am not a very smart fellow, I am a slow learner, it took me about 25 painful years and lost more than USD1 million before I became confident and profitable in forex trading. I have invested a lot of money attending many workshops and learnt from various gurus with different schools of thought! I worked in senior positions in two big broker firms. I have gone through many sleepless nights, with full of stresses, frustrations and margin calls. The journey is bumpy and not smooth, it was disheartening most of the time until one day I reached a stage where suddenly new wisdom dawned upon me, everything I did seemed so different, contrary to what I did in the past and what most other traders did, my trading performance started to turn around! I am not trying to brag anything and I just share my experience here by responding to your question. Indeed, as a trader, we must always be humble and respect the market, no one can really beat the market, I am enjoying my current trading success is not by being able to beat the market, but by beating my OLDSELF, my once lousy loser’s trading habits and wrong behaviors, my wrong perspective towards the forex market.:sweat_smile:

I have stopped counting the years by now and although I can definitely say I am more confident and successful than when I was a newbie I am still not satisfied.

In total, probably 7 years. Half of which could have been shaved off if I hadn’t wasted time and funds being fooled by scam courses, rooms and sites. Where I wish tradingschools.org had been around earlier and I realized all the education and ads out there and fake shilled ā€˜reviews’ are mostly scams by those who failed and don’t even trade live for a living.

reviews exposing scammers examples:

Petra picks/Jason Bond cadre / fake ā€œharvardā€ invitation
CFTC court subpoenaed proof scammer didn’t trade live / another one where the scammer was a losing trader before running his scam tradingschool
ā€˜scalping’ site fraud
fake review sites & ā€œtrustpilotā€
reality on how difficult and competitive
finally in recent years some regulators’ involvement

thank you for sharing your fx trading experience and for revealing forex trading scammers

25 painful years plus my age 55 equals 80 years old. I’m still alive this time lol. I have also a sleepless night and fight against my wife because she is my number one counterpart everytime I hold my Mobilephone and start trading and she always asks will you earn money there @ forex trading?

@Tonyomark After 25 painful years later, when I started to look at forex trading from a different perspective, a whole new enlightenment dawned upon me, trading only 10 minutes a day, ignored chasing after the market news, stopped trying to predict the market, stopped listening to the various market noises, by staying away from the market, my trading behaviors and habits also started to change, I started to trade with peace of mind. This new evolution started to change my trading results… Though the small achievement came a little late, but it’s better than never come, never too late…:sweat_smile:

May I ask so your trading on daily time frame now and just before the market close/open? Do you trade base on price action or using indicators?

@qwerty84 Yes, my trading plan is based on the daily and weekly time frames, I used the market close prices to determine my next action trade. I used market order to enter and exit all my trades, I don’t bargain for a better entry or exit price. I just wanted to make sure I jump on the bus whenever the bus has arrived. I traded with 18 pair portfolio for diversification of risk management purpose. I used 2 indicators plus my trading strategy. I trade 10 minutes a day with peace of mind. Indeed, there are many other effective and profitable ways to trade the market, there are many good strategists and winner traders out there with their own success. I just shared what and how I traded with our new trader friends.:pray:

Confidence is a continuous inbuilt affair because without confidence you cannot even trade. With that hope and willingness to gain a trade, that is why go into it. You can some of the limits of a trader are a. Fear, b. Greed, c. Laziness etc. God bless.

6 years and counting. Every year I think I’m pretty much got 80 or 90% of it figure it out and then I figure out something else major so in 2017 I’d say I don’t even know 10% of what I know now so the learning curve just seems to be steeper and steeper it never ends which is a good thing cuz you keep getting better.

Thank you for the kind words of support!
