You see a reversal pattern, you jump in and set s/l and t/p by your best judgment. Pattern is moving in your direction, but signs of resistence are building up against you. You can cut out for a fraction of what you might make. Do you stick to your system, possibly incur a loss and chalk it up, or cut out early averting a loss?
When I think back to talk of systems and sticking to them, it sounds like my scenario should be left to play out as part of the win/loss ratio.
Lets see…what was it my mother used to say…
A bird in the hand is better than 2 birds in the brush.
Systems work different for different people, from what I have seen, most people do not “stick” with a systems rules because the market is ever changing and they may perfer a different style of trading. So dont be shy to make small changes to the system to fit your trading style.
If I may be as bold as to make 1 small suggestion about the situation you described…lets say you are in a profit…but you start to see reversal signs…just move your s/l to break even OR move it 1/2 way between your entry point and the current price.
Have fun with it, make changes, take the basics of one persons system and turn it into your own “baby of profit”. After all, at the end of the day, you have to live with your own choices.
Best of luck to you
Well, by my trading rules I almost always exit a trade when RSI crosses the 50. I do this because usually it’ll test the 50, and bounce back and continue on its original course, netting me MUCH more profit.
That’s in theory though, and demoing.
In practice, I don’t stay near my charts all day so I set take-profits and stop losses and end up losing out on some big moves.
In the end, if you have the ability to stay with the charts throughout most of the day I would end up sticking to your rules, because you’re there to account for variability.
But for those of us not near our charts…I modify my exits.
Dailies I go for a 100:100, or 1:1 risk reward… however once I’ve hit my 100pip profit I let them run and set the stop loss to break even, It all depends on mood and current market direction
