Anybody else worried about this storm, Florence, making its way to towards the east coast? Currently a CAT 3, it will soon hit warmer waters and get caught below some system further north. Should be a major hurricane sometime later today (Monday). South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia have already declared states of emergency.
We will be in the VIPER bunker at the Palatial Ranch and Estate, since we are in rural wake county, we are far enough away from the coast to avoid the winds, but we will still have some flooding and Tornadoes no doubt.
I think the report you heard is confusing maximum projected rainfall with flooding due to storm surge.
3.2 meters of rainfall is just not possible.
The National Hurricane Center has projected maximum rainfall to be 40 inches (slightly more than 1 meter) in the worst-hit area. Most of the region threatened by this hurricane will get considerably less than 40 inches of rain.
Sea-water flooding due to storm surge (incoming 30-foot-high, wind-driven waves) is projected to be up to 11 feet deep (3.4 meters deep) over a wide area near the coast.
Calm down, it’s only a category 1 now, 90mph.
Of more concern is Typhoon Mangkhut in the Philippines, 325kph winds- I can’t even imagine how that must feel!
I remember seeing a news coverage several years back of a guy that was tying himself to a tree just before a hurricane was about to hit, just to prove that he could withstand the wind.
And to this day I am still thinking the same thing - "It’s not that the wind is blowing, it’s WHAT the wind is blowing."
P.S I’m still curious what happened to that guy…
