Most peoples seems to be using MT4 for trading. I opened a demo account with IG index recently, and their web platform seems very clean and easy to use. Are there anay reasons to use MT4 if I won’t be doing EAs for a long time?
To be honest the terminal you use is just an entry point into the market , you could do your research and analysis elsewhere then just submit your trades on the platform your broker gave you. But i suppose the thing with mt4 is 1 you can use it off line to backtest your strategies and 2 its been around ages with lots of support and has dynamic features .
agreed
as mt4 is so popular most questions you have regarding the platform have likely already been answered online
Make sense thank you. I’m currently reading a book by Bob Volman, and he seems to be using ProRealTime - which is offered by IG as long as I make. Problem with the web version is I can’t seem to change the EMA values, and it’s one of the things I might need. Luckily IG is offering ProRealTime as long as I make 4 trades a month. I’m just going to demo with MT4/web platform for now till I start trading live, then I will switch to ProRealTime.
I use Prorealtime with IG. I prefer it to MT4.
You can use PRT on a DEMO account with them too if you just want to give it a try. Just open a chat with their advisors on IG and they’ll show you how.
Do you mind explaining why you prefer MT4? Also do I need to message them because I need to activate it, or is it just for instructions?
I found out how to activate ProrealTime, but I think the trial is only for 2 weeks. I’m currently still going through a book, and just doing on and off demo trading. So I’ll save the 2 weeks for when I have more time.
I think its just a box to tick in the settings to activate it. I think the 2 week trial is just for a live account.
My PRT account still works fine on my DEMO totally free.
When I click onto PRT I got this “You can get access to ProRealTime charts at no extra cost if you transact at least four times in a given month. However, if you don’t meet this requirement, or your trading activity is of extremely low value, then a A$ 40 per month fee will apply on the last day of every calendar month”. Maybe I do need to contact customer services to make sure I don’t get charged.
Oh and I just figured out how to change the values on the IG online platform. It’s quite good now.
Or you could just use mt4 which is definitely free.? What can you do on PRT that you can’t do on mt4 ?
You are not wrong there, and I think I should. Only part that turns me off is that the software is somewhat old. I’ll give it a shot either way though.
Whatever floats your boat i suppose, mt4 has a Buy button and a Sell button or pending orders they may not be as shiny but they work just the same.
This is why, mt4 is the best & most useable trading platform.
