Hi everyone,
I have been googling all over but cannot seem to find a comprehensive list of technical indicator descriptions and definitions. I don’t like using tools I know little about the workings of in any situation, and certainly not when my money is on the line. When this is above this or that do this…etc doesn’t cut it for me. I want to know why, and that means knowing what those indicators are actually measuring and telling me.
Thanks for any help you can provide!
Cheers
gml

Here’s another area on stockcharts.com that is a bit more specific to indicators:

To my knowledge, there is no “comprehensive” list of indicators complete with descriptions: there are far too many indicators, with more created each day. If you are looking for the more commonly used indicators typical of what is found on most charting platforms, the above link should help - you’ll find some of the underlying rationale and mathematics for each of the indicators listed there.
If there is a specific indicator you’d like more information on, you can search for it on Google; but you might be left unsatisfied without access to a specialized treatment of the indicator, for which you’ll have to refer to primary sources (one example that comes to mind is any of J. Welles Wilder’s indicators, originally and most fully discussed in his book).
