Investor advice

Hi there, newbie here.
Is trading Forex the most effective use of an investors time/capital, as opposed to other financial instruments? - the level of return per trade vs. the time and risk involved.

I’m halfway through the pips school and wondering if it makes sense to invest time on forex vs stocks for example.

Not really an easy question to answer as the returns gained from FX will vary from person to person, as will the opinions too!

Trading FX is certainly the most riskiest form of trading - in fact, this is not Trading, it’s Speculating. It’s also certainly not Investing.

The level of return per trade vs the time and risk involved will certainly be at its highest when considering FX speculating against alternative investing options / financial instruments. I’m sure this sounds good, and it’s what you want to hear, right? But, there is a caveat, the returns are at their highest when you know what you are doing and have a statistical edge - which, unfortunately, is not so easy for most to achieve.

However, you asked the question [quote=“Ljbrix, post:1, topic:104769”]

If you put the time in, and you can find a sensible edge, then it will pay off - more so than the returns in stocks/shares from an Investment point of view [this is because FX speculating uses leverage - yes a double edged sword].

There is also no reason why you have to stick with FX Speculating either, it’s not always smart to keep all your eggs in a single basket.

One simple way to think of it is this:

Fast money: Forex.

  • More effort
  • More time required
  • less funds required

Slow money: Stock passive investing

  • Less effort
  • Less time required
  • More funds required.

Personally I do both. I trade a smaller forex account while building a larger stock investing account.

yup i have to agree with both replies, and yes to keep inmind that forex trading is not as easy as how some portray it. many even settle for its referal rewards rather than trading it. in the long run our aim in any business is to gain but many fail coz they have the wrong idea when it comes to forex trading  as long as the level of awareness is suffice then you should have a general picture and you will be fine… best of luck.
