Is Forex Gambling?

Forex can be gambling. But it is not inherently gambling. Unlike pure gambling, with Forex you are able to create an edge in the market. Because of that ability, while risk is involved, it’s at a calculated risk.

Once you have an edge, you’ve won. You beat the house. That just can’t happen in a casino.

[QUOTE=Jezzode;689420]Brokers don’t have any control of the market, they are simply the middle man who you execute trades through. They facilitate the matching process of buying and selling.

I have some remarks about this statement: (Some) Brokers also facilitate flash trading and controlling profits in this way. They also take profit on SL or TP if there is a gap in price. And by having all information about SL and TP of all open trades they can manipulate it in there favor.

Forex is gambling with an edge Like professional poker players have an edge and roulette players can have an edge. Why casinos keep professional players outside? Brokers don’t.

If you can create an edge it is not gambling anymore?

dubbel post!

I can say forex is not all that gambling. There are so many trading in the forex making investing so much money into the market in order to earn more profit. The forex market is highly profitable when traded properly.

Try telling the taxman its gambling, he doesn’t seem to think so

That may be true, however if it is, then you’re (or anyone) is with the wrong broker!

Assuming all is fair, which it can be with research, trading is not gambling when done correctly. If you want to be picky then everything is gambling in life, every business, every decision, every day you cross the road, every time you use your toaster or turn on a light bulb… come on guys, apply some context to this.

Well Forex is never gambling if you don’t treat it as one. If you can learn and come up with a good strategy to trade this business, am sure you must be profitable and would win consistently.

The above is from post number one, over 4.5 years ago.

Have a look at how many posters in the early posts now post in 2015.

I see only a few, MG is there (welcome back Sir), Jezz from Cheshire and I think even MT, though not sure.

But what about all the rest.

Then have a think about that, maybe they all just gave up, or maybe they just don’t post.

What about those guys, what became of their trading.

Next time someone says to be a CPT is easy, then think again. (CPT = consistently profitable trader).

Thanks to all for all these useful inputs. The basic answer is for me not entirely linked to trading but more to corporate finance. If you are a small company with substantial revenues abroad, you definitely need the forex market to be able to hedge your currency risk. It is then up to retail traders to take the opposite side of the transaction according to their market scenario. Forex is thus clearly not comparable to gamble that has no fundamental economic underlying.

Forex itself isnt gambling, but some traders are gamblers in the way they trade

It is misconception that forex is gambling. Actually people treat it as gambling. They trade just for getting high profits. Did their tries for do or die. If they can manage their account they will use forex as business.

Forex can be done as normal business , if they not treat as do or die . I do not treat forex as gambling i made normal profits not high ones so that I will not loose all my investment in just one trade.

i don’t see it as gambling, but there always risks involved (like everything). I just try to use indicators, news, charts, etc to reduce my risk as much as possible. There are setups you can use which have a much higher probability of being successful.

Exactly its up to a trader how he handles forex trading, he can do gambling and proper trading as well. But gamblers won’t last long in forex market.

To add to this i think these people are also the ones who spread bad rumours for trading or brokers, because they try to blame everything except theirselves.

no worries, these type of people mostly reduce, periods. now they finally found how to put their bet with the markets, the binary are become their perfect answer while couldn’t handle forex market harsh enviroment. put a bet with payout, no need to storm the mind with bunch of unecessary analysis. with these kind of service, one single pips up are considered as total winning result :).

Everything in life is a gamble, its how you played on it matters - if it is to be judged whether it be right or wrong. If people treat it as a business then it’s investing, if one would treat it just as betting then it’s purely game of chance.

Dunno about what others still thinks of it but for me I treat it as an online game  'Got tired of those classic online game already, wasting money on buying virtual items and spending countless hours just to level up good. Here in forex I play and investing my money at the same time, considering every planned entry I make that I’m fighting and beating up those bear&bullish monsters strategically, and If I win I have the chance to get that treasure chest of pips. Yup, can’t wait to level up my profit further… yeah yeah beat those monster candles with MACD swords, go go go go.

Totally agree ontario binary is the answer for those who want to gable in this market and i think people started to realise it nowadays as you said

I think its is based on individual view if you see it as gambling then its left for the trader to gamble with the trade. I see it as a serious business in which money is involves and so you have to put all your effort in order to earn profit.
