Hi All
I’m using MT4 at the moment but just wondering if any one is aware of a platform that can …
- Initiate a trailing stop at a specified future price
- Keeps track of the trailing stop server side (instead of the on the client where my PC needs to be on the whole time)
Cheers
FXCM has upgraded its MT4 platform to integrate seamlessly with our No Dealing Desk forex execution. This means no 3rd party bridges and no auto account syncs. We now offer more features to enhance your MetaTrader 4 trading experience.
The margin call policy for FXCM MetaTrader 4 accounts is different from all other FXCM accounts. When a margin call occurs, trades will be closed one by one until “Free Margin” is greater than zero.
Trades are closed in the following manner when a margin call occurs. Normally, trades close in order of the size of their loss, from the largest loss to the smallest loss, as recorded in the “Profit” column at the time of margin call. However, trades cannot be closed out of FIFO (first in first out) order. These accounting rules will override the primary logic - largest losing trade closed first.

i’m using Protrader 2 (protrader.net) and have never had such problems. Protrader meets these two your requirements and as for me is more usable than MT4. you can download demo from their site and try it by yourself.
That will only be feasible for traders working with a broker who offers ProTrader though, right?
O.
MT4 is capable of doing both:
- Download an EA from the MQL4 Community.
- Run your MT4 on a VPS.

O.
of course. almost every platform can be used only if it is offered by some broker, can’t it?
Yes, that’s the main point in favour of MT4, since nearly every broker offers it.
Which brokers offer ProTrader? Would be interesting to know.
Cheers,
O.
i agree, that it’s the main point. because i can’t say that this platform is the best by other criteria. but it’s just my opinion, and i may be wrong
there are brokers that offer not the protrader, but protrader-based software. Alior or FXCentral, for example. also - MarketPlus, VelocityTrade, Liqvinet… and it’s not the whole list, i think.
Yes, MetaTrader surely has its flaws and weaknesses; luckily most things that one misses can be had by downloading one of the many free available Indicators/EAs/Scripts from the MQL4 Community.
Still, MT is far from perfect … the main argument in its favour really is the fact that it is so commonly used.
Having to get used to a new trading platform every time one tests a new broker or switches brokers alltogether sucks.
In a perfect world, there would be one interface which every broker used and which would be accessible by every trading platform.
O.
ha, hope the perfect world will be =)
Yes, wouldn’t that be nice?
But won’t happen, since every platform uses a different language, so the interface would need a built-in ‘translator’ or ‘equalizer’ … I don’t see brokers spending money on that.
O.
yes, it seems to be so… i think that the appearing of “one-platform-for-all-needs” is more likely. now it is MT4. but maybe someday it will be another one with bigger functionality and higher usability. but it is also the idea from “perfect world”
trades cannot be closed out of FIFO (first in first out) order
That is not only totally unrelated to the thread topic, but also plain wrong.
FIFO (which is a stupid rule) only applies to US citizens using US brokers.
Thankfully I can close my trades in the order I see fit, and hedge to my heart’s content, too.
