I played with paper money on the “Trading Game” app for android (the one with the Donald Trump head icon). I made a lot of money consistently, and I figured I had learned enough to try real life, since they are displaying close to real time quotes and I was doing so well. I figured I had a good guessing muscle
A few months have come and gone and so has my money , at least in the TOS live account. In their paper money account I still make money, although I’m not necessarily duplicating efforts. I also have 50K (USD) there and place bigger bets on movements, so now I have to wonder if that has anything to do with it. My concern with TOS is that I’ve noticed that 1020 pis can often cost me $50 real fast, but when it turns around, it may take many more pips to get me back to zero. Almost makes me think there’s a little bit of a handicap. Has anyone found that trading on another platform is easier? I also find TOS cumbersome to set OCO brackets and even alerts.
I’m on a Mac, so MT4 isn’t going to work, although I could switch to iPad, TOS on iPad seems to be cumbersome as well, so I’m not sure what the answer is yet. I appreciate some advice on this.
I used TOS for charting but place my trades on another broker’s ap on my phone. I use Mac too. I love TOS. I only use it for trading long term stocks and indices.
I like TOS charting capabilities, but placing trades for quick scalping seems a bit cumbersome. I am sure I also have much to learn about trading forex in general.
An example of issues I have with TOS is the error I get at times: REJECTED: StatusReason: 75. OrderStatusReason: 49 Text: The trigger price for your non-guaranteed order must be set outside the ‘not between’ values shown.. I can never find the ‘not between’ values, and it seems to occur when I need to place a limit order the most. It’s cost me so much money. Also, the fact that they close you if your account has gone down to a certain level around 3am. It seems I need twice as much as I’m willing to risk available in the account at all times. Are these issues with all trading accounts, or mostly TOS?
I’m not sure about those issues. I’ve never used TOS to trade Forex. Honestly I tried to get approved for Forex through TDAmeritrade and was rejected and I started an account with Forex.com. My advice would be to try another broker’s demo mode and just see if you like it better. Forex.com has a browser based tradingview platform that was fine for me but I don’t trade short time frames. I recently learned IG is available to Americans now, so there’s another option. Another option would be to invest in a PC and use MetaTrader.
