It seems I was rather naive ! 
And yes - around 80% of teh world’s countries are investigating starting their own “Cryptos” The reasons for this are manifold and much of it comes from the imminent danger of Hyperinflation in Fiat currencies combined it seems with an admiratin of the Chinese system of Social Credit - and that seems to be the difference between these proposed versions and the REAL Cryptos !
By initiating their own versions the amalagum of Governments and Central Banks can entirely get rid of cash and completely control the monetary actions of the Plebs by means of such cheats as putting “Time limits” on your “money” - ie spend it in 3 months or it disappears is far more effective than “Negative Interest Rates” in encouraging expenditure.
I have also seen arguments that they can taylor interest rates and monetary policy to target specific sectors of society and therefore their mates get preferrential deals.
We already know that in China - millions of people cannot use public transport or aitlines because their “Money” does not work for those purposes. And we may speculate as to whether having regard to the vitriol expressed by the Loony Lefties recently whether Trump Supporters would sudedenly find their own money “not working” ? - Perhaps even this is the underlying meaning behind teh "Great Reset "?
It is also pretty clear that since it will be impossible for “them” to evade Hyperinflation - medium to long term that another “Form” of money must be a huge priority for Govts and Central Banks. And the “Crypo pounds”, Crypto Euros and “fedCoin” will NOT be produced in the same way as Real Cryptos, which are borderless and tending towards anonymity. much like “Cash” should be.
It seems that a good many people are actually going “Crypto” as a Hedge against inflation, Store of value and an International form of money.
You are right “Govts” hate it ! and the Chinese have recently made it “illegal” which should be a huge point in its favour. And no doubt they will - if they can - destroy it at some point.
Froom what I have read / listened to tho’ it does seem as tho’ Ceypto is pretty much the last hope for Freedom of the Individual - in the longer term.
WE certainly seem to be entering “Interesting Times” as the Chinese Curse has it !
