MAC user needs a platform

ight guys so i am just recently getting into the forex world and am having trouble finding a good platform for a mac. i dont have windows so i cant use bootcamp. i just created a fxcm demo account but find their platform a bit confusing and dull. are there any other mac or web based platforms you would recommend me trying out?

Short answer? No. All you can currently use on mac I believe are online platforms and they tend to be laggy non user friendly. If you’re serious about trading, get windows…

Coming from somebody who prefers mac but has to use a pc for trading!

Java based platforms work very well and they have all you need to trade.

Off the top of my head I can think of Oanda’s and Dukascopy’s platforms, but I’m sure there are more out there.

Give them a try, you’ll get used to them quickly.

Wrtm-genuinely think there is not an online platform that can match the best downloaded ones (in my opinion fxcm tradestation)

I would recommend purchasing Parallels and a copy of the Windows OS. Both are fairly cheap pieces of software and will allow you to trade efficiently while enjoying the benefits of OS X and Windows. I trade on multiple machines and enjoy using the Mac accompanied by Parallels the most.

Just a thought…let me know if you have any trouble, I’ll be more than happy to lend a hand

After reading this should probably clarify, I meant for speed, slickness and design. As far as functionality, i agree most online platforms will have what you need.

I’m honestly really comfortable with JForex (Dukascopy). Reliable, stable, customizable, it saves your templates and has everything I can ask for in a platform, plus I get to use it in my mac which is a charm.

Yes, Java based platforms are not as ‘good looking’ as the downloable ones, but my point is there are options for mac users and really good ones.

I guess it’s a matter of personal taste/choice, but the options are there.

If after considering all your options out there you decide that downloadable platforms are your choice, VirtualBox is a free emulator (is that how they’re called?) , and you just have to get your windows copy. It works fast and smooth.

Ok now I’m confused, honestly I barely know the basics regarding computers, so I ask you to help me differenciate, but what do you mean by online platform?

Web based platforms I don’t recommend them very much, in my opinion they’re not just basic, they lack speed and functionality.

Now in order to work with a Java based platform I need to download a file (?) and somehow it works as a downloadable platform that is there in my desktop all the time. It’s fast and very different from a web based platform.

Are we talking about the same ones?

Yeah I was meaning online as web based and downloaded as non web based.

If oanda is a desktop app that works with mac then I stand corrected…thought it was web based for mac…

Three years ago they had this platform for demo trading called FxGame, which is/was Java based and you downloaded it to your computer. I don’t know if that’s still the case though.

Now Jforex is superior in my opinion, but yeah I wish there were just as many options for Mac as there are for Pcs.

I use Codeweavers CrossOver to use MetaTrader on my MacBook.
The great thing is that you do not need to install Windows on your Mac, you will not require Microsoft Windows OS license, no rebooting to run the program (though there may be reboot required to install Crossover, but not every time you want to run MT4) and no switching to a virtual machine.
Codeweavers CrossOver

Never had any problems ever, live and demo accounts, works very well.

thanks for all the rapid responses. from the looks of it, when i feel comfortable enough to get off the demo account and onto the real thing(which is looking like a few years from now haha) it looks like i probably should and will buy windows to maximize my trading. for now tho i guess i will be content with we based platforms. is oanda actually a decent one? their rating on forex peace army wasnt that good. thats why i veered away from it.
