Another reason. If you take the .ex4 file from one brokers metatrader and load it on another brokers it may not work. But if you take the .mq4 file, it will.

I thought mq4 has to be compiled into ex4 in order for it to work at all ?

could be that you have an indicator that is looking for price to be 4 digits whereas the broker requires 5 digits.

perhaps you could explain ‘don’t work’ more clearly, best may be to attach the indicator to a post so someone can have a look at it.
