Thanks for that Adrian. found it. I had been looking at preferences on the trade screen - not on the rates screen. Awesome !!
Hi,
Can anyone tell me please where the data window is in the demo version of Oanda FXTrade? Within the demo version of Oanda MT4 it’s in the view settings, but I cant find it anywhere in FXTrade?
The reason I like it is that when I’m planning a trade I can hover over any candle and I get all the info i need, including open price, high, low and close price etc, plus the ATR if I’m using it in calculations.
Cheers,
Simon
Hi,
Have been searching this morning and have found it - you go to Tools, User Prefs, Chart, and tick ‘Draw Graph information box’
Phew…onwards and upwards :58:
Wish I could work out now how to remove the grid from the charts…lol…it’s never ending!
Cheers,
Simon
Why don’t you ask their support? Don’t they exist?
Well yes I expect so but I was hoping at the time of posting to get the info from a helpful person on here…if that isnt what these forums are for then I apologise
OANDA has called me on occasion, but usually it’s after something major changes in the account. If they don’t reach me they simply leave a message and I can get back to them. Do they call often? No, not at all.
I believe did see something about resetting or adjusting the time in the user manual, but at the moment I can’t put my finger on the location. What I will be doing is going through it again and reviewing portions at random. Will keep my eye open for it.
I would like to thank everyone for their insight into this, and for some interesting questions as well.
The reason for putting MT4 on my laptop is primarily for charting and analysis, secondly I like the way I can scan a series of charts and keep an eye on the market. I’ve just relocated (it’s been a hectic month of September) so I’m not actually using the demo account yet, but I am set up to go.
For actual trades I will be using FXTrade for a few reasons, the primary one being that FXTrade is strongly recommended by OANDA for the most accurate information, and also the app they want you to use for actual trades. If there ever is a discrepancy, OANDA will go with the information based on the FXTrade activity, MT4 takes a back seat. I discussed this briefly with an OANDA representative and got the same advice. MT4 (as someone pointed out) is also good to have as a backup. I can also transfer the information to a second laptop (I use two of them side by side).
The option of trading outside of the regular lot sizes is a tremendous advantage with a small account, and one of the deciding factors for using OANDA. Another is the very useful fact that your demo account will not be expired on you, giving you time to really work out systems/techniques that get the results you want. If it takes you six or eight months to really get comfortable with a system, you have the time.
I’ve played with a few charting programs, but short of buying one, it appears MT4 will fill the need.
Sometime in the next week or two I’ll be digging into MT4 again big time, and I’ll be happy to pass along what I learn. FXTrade will follow.
