I guys when you test a new strategy on demo account do you forward test for 100 or 1000 trades to determine its viability?

I think it is better to test based on time rather than number of trades. This is because you need to experience different market conditions. Also, the length of time or the number of trades will vary depending on your trading time frame. Are you a swing trader, day trader, scalper etc.?

its scalping, but i am running it 24/7 at day at night to get a feel of the strategy during the best and worst trading hours of the day, naturally during the london and us opens are best.

But its a day trading, scalping strategy. I am running it across multiple currencies to try to get that feel of different markets, but so far it has worked well over the last few weeks, aprox 60 trades so far.

I did not test a new trading strategy on demo account for 100 trades. I generally prefer time to test strategies.

I’m a swing trader, and I’ve never tried scalping, so I couldn’t really say what a suitable testing period would be.

Forward test 100 trades are suitable for me…normally I test a strategy for 2 months.
