Open, close values, pip changes and math

Hello guys.
This is my first post on this forum. Glad I found this place.

Before I get into buys I want to get my math right to have a deeper understanding of how forex functions.
So I’m watching EURUSD pair (Not on chart)

Here is how it looks on 5M period.

Date, Open, Close
09/13/13,00:00 , 1.3298000 , 1.3296000
09/13/13,00:05 , 1.3296000 , 1.3297000
09/13/13,00:10 , 1.3298000 , 1.3298000

So what I don’t get about these numbers is why doesn’t the open value start the same value as previous close value? Like on 00:05 the closes with 1.3297000, but on next period the price opens with 1.3298000.
Can anyone explain?

If I wanted to calculate pip change between 00:00 - 00:10 would I need to calculate PIP change for each period individually and then sum together or I can just calculate all together?

The next transaction that occurred after the 00:05 candle was one pippette higher.

During the formation of the candle, you would just see the current price move. But if/when that occurs between candles, it’s reflected as a gap between last close, and next open. And it occurs very frequently in the lower time frames.

It’s simply a timing thing of the first transaction in the new time period.
