Pip-curious noob - hello

Hi All, figured it’s about time to post finally. Been lurking around for a while, getting a sense of everything and devouring all the knowledge. I’m an Aussie expat living in Europe (though covid stranded temporarily). My main career is in archaeology, which I love. I admit, I was initially pip-curious, lured by the thought of possibly having a small supplementary income (researchers earn so little!), but have quickly become more fascinated by the mechanics and psychology of trading and the market itself. I’m also super keen on the fact that so many people here found themselves attaining more discipline and patience in life beyond trading. Love that (great thread topic @ria_rose).

I’m a total noob, never traded before. But I love data and have been loving learning this entirely new world. Hilariously, I first heard of forex trading from a YouTube ad for a free learn to trade seminar. I never sign up to those “free” things, but did on an impulse because I was curious. I quickly realised it was a scam program, not a real seminar but an emotive sales pitch preying on dreams. But I became intrigued by forex while reading up before the seminar. So figured I would keep reading and very quickly found myself here and at the School of Pipsology. I’m still going through the course, and plan on taking it again while reading and researching. Been demo trading for a week to get a sense of it all (omg the sheer panic when I first accidentally launched a trade without meaning to!), as I learn best by doing. I can see how it is not a true reflection of reality (not least as I managed to make $4000 in profit by sheer dumb luck and being able to hold trades in the red until they became professor without getting an account closed - until I worked out TP and SL), but I’m going to stick with demo trading while as i learn more and start practicing properly in the rego demo platforms. I’m just in mt4 atm, but will continue to demo trade with my broker, when I eventually find one after researching carefully. I feel that is still a long way off. I’m aiming to start live trading in the new year maybe, will see how I go learning.

Anyway big thanks to all the experienced people here helping everyone out, and to the entire supportive community in general. Nice to meet you all!
