Pivots

Hi Guys, at the moment I am up 20 odd pips (Demo)
best day I have had

Question
You may think this is daft, is it ok to use the hourly pivot point numbers for the 15 charts ?

Kind Regards
Gary

My Experience is measured in Minutes. :o

Hi, Gary

Is it okay? Of course. Itā€™s okay to try anything in demo. Will it work? I dunno. Find out. And tell us.

Also, use some of those ā€œminutesā€ to search the School, and this Forum, for information on pivots. Do your own digging.

If you decide to continue with forex trading, you will be studying and learning (mostly on your own) for the rest of your career.

You should take that seriously, and you should start that now.

Iā€™m looking into to that too I didnt realize there was such a thing as hourly pivots untill a few days ago, my initial results are they do work with 15 minute charts, which makes sense as hourly pivots change every hour so to make use of them you would have to be looking at a chart time frame of less than an hour

I was unsure if I had to calculate the pivot every 15mins, in the 15 charts.

Trying to get my head round the 3 period pivot point MA I donā€™t think I can mention the book I am reading, but itā€™s heavy going, and not for the light reader like myself.

Yesterday I did 10 trades 4 went south, 6 were ok, total pips after deductions =34. very pleased with this, I came out of most positive trades far to early, but I hope to improve,
My entry I think is ok, I think I am watching the action a little intense thus creating more in my mind regarding the exit trigger.
The stop loss, is a bit hairy fairy at the mo, for instance I placed stop loss 20 pips below the buy, but I exit with 14 pips profit, there isnā€™t a balance, I am gambling more than I win :frowning:
Unsure at this time where to put my TP, I simply cant say where the price will go, so I leave this blank and exit when I think is best, which at this time is based on the chaotic formula = **** is that a Donji, Iā€™m out of there, and it turns out itā€™s a dirty mark on the screen.
Pivot Points R1,2 S1,2 are becoming a little clearer as a tool to trade with, Fibonacci is in the near future.

Thank You for your input
Kind Regards
Gary

Adding Fibs to your pivot point chart will show when there is ā€œconfluenceā€ ie, if a Fib level and a P.P. level are at or very close together then that level is very strong. Some add a trend line too but adding too many indicators can clutter up the chart and more importantly the mind. d
edit: A thread/strategy you might want to read is ā€œPrice Action Heroā€ by mastergunner. He and another chart poster on that thread have very useful commentaries and analysis.

I have this problem all the time I end up with too many lines. Keeping up with pivot points when there are weekly daily hourly points is time consuming enough but when I have trendlines too it becomes very difficult.
Im working on a color coding system to mark out trendlines by order of strength, for instance a trendline pulled from the current major trend on the monthly chart is super strong resistance compared to a trendline pulled on the current baby trend on the 30 minute chart, the problem is, even though the weaker trendlines do have significance for some time after they are broken, how to identify which are the stronger ones when you have several trendlines cutting through the chart.

I love daily pivots, they are great. But Iā€™m just not at my computer that frequently in the day to trade them. I could use weekly pivots, but Iā€™m just not that patient :).

I find Iā€™m more of an S&R bounce/break trader.

I have the same problem. I put up lines up likes, and before I know it, I itā€™s all too much clutter for me. I try to draw lines noting one or two of the most significant current trends, then maybe one fib for more detail.

Somebody in one of the treads in B.P recommended actionforex-dot-com. They have tables for D., 4H, & 1H P.P. They believe and follow Elliott Wave theory which I ignore but their P.P. info is very useful. I hope my posting their address isnā€™t a violation. d.
