If you download an mt4 demo, like from ibfx, you should have the historical data feed. I didnāt start my demo on a weekend, but historical data is there.
Thanks! Iāve been using Oanda, but have downloaded MT4 and have not yet unzipped the file. Iāll check it out! Thanks again.
Oanda goes back a good ways on the daily chart, but I suppose for back testing systems and practice identifying patterns, an MT4 setup would be better. Iām new myself and will still be demoing for awhile and I initially started an Oanda demo, but Iām starting to really appreciate the robustness of the MT4 client.
Thanks. I know I can back test with Oanda. I really was looking for something that would simulate live charts to make small mock trades with on the weekends when the markets are closed.
To my knowledge, thereās no such feature offered by any broker, if by āsimulateā you mean where price moves forward in automated real time. MT4 (there are many other platforms that have this feature, but few are free) will permit you to manually back-test, moving forward period by period with much more data at your disposal than Oanda currently provides; but it sounds like you already know that. I do use Oanda for live charting and execution, though, much preferring them to just about every MT4-enabled broker.
Thanks Andrew - I guess Iāll have to wait until Sunday. In the meantime, lots of books to read.
